I am in the mood to buy a new jeep for offroading. I am going to sale my yj, so I want to decide before hand on my new jeep. Can someone help me decide btw the m-715 or the xj. I have 3 kids so I think the xj would be more comfortable, but the m-715 seems to be unbreakable! Which jeep is the best OFFROAD?

I would go w/ the XJ. AW4 trans, 81/4 rear, 4.0. Plenty of after market stuff plenty of junkyards that can supply parts. Love the xj.

As somebody with one of each currently sitting in the driveway, I'd say the XJ is gonna be a lot better for you. Consider you'll need to replace the suspension on the M-715 and probably the engine - not to mention that the front Dana 60 isn't exactly all that strong. Plus there's the drum brakes, weird bolt pattern, etc. When you consider the fact that you can fit 38s on an M-715 stock it seems cool until you realize that with the extra wheelbase and width it's somewhat comparable to an XJ with 33s or 35s.
I'd go XJ with a 4- or 6-inch lift and would work on fitting 33s or 35s. You'll have a much easier time building it, finding parts for it, etc.

Cherokee for sure. They're dirt cheap. Plentiful. And anything that might break, someone has already figured out how to keep it from breaking.
Tons of info for "strong fixes".
The only knock is the puny wheel wells.
