So,  winters coming and I have a stock 2002 Tj sport (not going to be stock for long)

However,  with winter on the way,  I need advice on winter tires.   How big can I go with complete stock before I start to get too much rub?

I am not intrested in how big I can go once I get the lift on,  as that wont be happening untill this spring (yay mud!)  I just need to know sizes for stock suspension that will get me through the winter.

Thanks

depends on your wheels, definatly 235/75/15, probably 30/9.50/15 regardless, maybe 31/10.50/15 with minimul or no rub.

31's will work, or 255's, both will just touch the fender as the suspension hits the bump stops,
you could throw in a pair of 3/4" spacers in the front and eliminate the rubbing for and extra 30 bucks
after market wheels generally have more backspacing so they will stick out more than the stock wheels allowing for a little wider tire,
if you're interested in going to 16" wheels, look for a set of take offs from a Rubicon 245x75-16's (31x10.5) since the JK's 17" wheels have been circulating the price of 03-06 wheels have dropped way down. you will be able to score a set of 5 wheels and tires for about the cost of 4 new tires.

31x10.50 is the biggest you can run on the stock rims. They will just kiss the front control arms at full lock though......aftermarket rims or spacers take care of this though. If you wanted to spend some more money, 32x11.50s with aftermarket rims and Xenon flat flares will look sweet.

BFG ATs are probably the best tires you can find for winter driving on the street-in my opinion at least.

Yep, 31's are the biggest one can run on stock rims & suspension w/o too much rub. I had 31's on my 1997 TJ & I still got some rub on full left or right turns.

How big of a lift do you plan on going with eventually? if you plan on going with anything bigger than a 2" why not wait till its time for your lift and then get your tires, you will need bigger than 31s if you go bigger than a 2 inch lift. now if you plan of going with just a 2 inch lift go ahead and just buy some 31s
