This is ridiculous!  I broke the steel brake line on the driver's rear side of my 04 Rubicon, between the T block on the diff and the rubber flex line.  The whole assembly is maybe 30" long.  Price from Jeep dealer........$438, plus freight, plus tax.  I guess I'm getting too old, 'cause that is so #$^Q@&((Q outrageous I can't believe it.  Thinking of getting the ends close to each other and bridging the gap with duct tape.

To add to this story.  I just got a call from the local jeep dealer.  To shorten story, parts person checked the price history of the part.  It started at $25, was later raised to $29, then $438!  A note says the supplier no longer provided part.  Not bad, a more than multiplier of 17, 17,000% increase in price.  Don't buy gold, buy brake lines, a really good investment!

Dang, that's nuts!

Bending new brake lines is easy enough, just rebuild it yourself. Should cost a few bucks for hard line and fittings, but you'll have to buy the tools too so there will be $50 or so... still better than $400

So it's not a Jeep... sue me... it's still faster!

Here's another example-
I just called to find out what it was gonna cost me to replace my tierod ends........ by the time the guy was done talking it was gonna cost me over 400 dollars! Thats $72.00 for each of the three tie rod ends and another $200.00 for the one thats part of the drag link!

So................. yea i'll be up grading if I can figure out what's best!

sounds to me like yer talkin to the wrong place.

for 150 bucks ya can buy a whole new tie rod and draglink with four of those 72$ joints.

actually a couple of em on the haltenberger (y link) are full length rods...

I have a rusty's wheel to wheel tie rod, and monster has a currie HD y link.... the wheel to wheel isn't as touchy as the factory style y link, the wife pointed out that difference  when she first drove the rubi after I put it on... so ya either like it or ya don't.

rusty's...

currie HD y link... a huge difference in size.

Well I know that i can get everything for 150 from Quadratec so i was never really gonna use the dealer i just was currious as to the price.

I like the currie setup but i would rather have a high steer setup but it's not high steer.

Plus i'll be doing hydro assist as soon as i get the links figured out, so i've got to have room for that!

The final word.  I am not a mechanic, so I contacted my mechanic.  He billed me $11 for parts, $45 to install and bleed lines.  Job done for $60.  But, I just got a call from local jeep dealer--Jeep says supplier no longer supplies, so this part is a prototype, and price of $438 cannot be reduced.  However, parts lady went on line and found NOS part in Arkansas.  That dealer wants $38 plus frt, so said yes.  So, keep new part for backup to this repair.  If repair holds up this weekend in local mountains, I will offer the NOS part at bargain price of $350.  HEY!--us old guys got to suppliment Social Security somehow!
