Hey fellas,
I built some long arms for the rear of my TJ a couple weeks back and the coil springs have been putting up a fight ever sense. I took em out to cycle the suspension and admire my work (haha) and ever sense the driver side spring won't seat and is making the whole jeep lean to the passenger side. it's only off by like a half inch or so but it's just enough for me to notice! I'm 90% sure i've got em on the right side.................... so...... yea.....
I hope there is an easy fix that I'm not aware of cuz it's bugging the heck out of me!
oh i have turned, compressed, and turned them some more with no luck!
thanks for any thoughts!

Depending on your springs, some mfg use a longer/stiffer spring on the right rear to compensate for torque twist. And a longer/stiffer spring on the left front to compensate for driver only weight and to offset the rear spring offset.
Some mfg even recomend switching the springs from side to side in order to level the ride side to side.
Coils are very sensitive and it doesn't take much to make them sit a little different.
The rears are not like the front in that there isn't a notch to rest in. So no orientation is needed.
The first thing I would do is loosen all my control arms and track bars. With all the weight of the Jeep on the wheels and the wheels on the ground, give the suspension some good bouncing on each corner. Sometimes the control arm bushings can keep the Jeep from settling. Then re-torque everything.
The next thing I would try is swapping the springs side to side.
Also, are you rotating the axle for a SYE driveline? If so, how much? And is there enough arch in the spring because of the axle rotation to keep the spring from seating?

Ok I didn't know about different lengths for passenger VS. driver side thats interesting....but the coil just isn't seating all the way.... it should be right after it seats....
I've got a currie axle that has the rotation built into it, so thats not it, but i did move the axle back a inch and a half when i did all this! The passenger side is fine so i thought the driver side would be to!

Sounds like you're working on some cool stuff. Take some pictures of what you've got going and of the spring not seating.
Just use your cell phone and send them to "ftgiles.87350@uploads.photobucket.com" and I'll post them in this thread for you.

Ya, It's definitely your axle rotation that is causing the spring to not seat on the lower backside. I have my upper spring pockets relocated rearward so this does not happen.
This is CGREENWOOD's picture that I posted for him...

The rear springs are symmetrical. The front's are not.

Ok i just fixed my problem out here in the parking lot at school....
I tied a strap to the back side of the spring and then to a pole.............. then when i pulled the jeep forward it pulled the spring perpendicular to the spring pad on the axle side and it just fell into place!
thanks for the help!

Good Job!
Still, loosen all your control arms so that the bushings are neutral at normal ride height. Give it some good bouncing and re-torque them. They'll flex better and last longer.

Your Currie coil spring pad must be slightly different than stock. A little more square or larger diameter or something.
It usually takes a lot of axle rotation to keep the spring from seating. The spring usually just gets an arch in it.
Nice 9" though! It's got the strong housing to tube casting. Got big bearings and big shafts too?

Haha yea i bet it looked pretty redneck to!! but it just popped back in place, i just checked it and it's sitting nice and level now!
yea that currie axle has the big timken bearings and 31 spline shafts but i've already messed up one ring gear and am having a little trouble with the outer seals but other wise i love it!!!
You can see my new uppers to!
