the coilovers generally have longer travel and are more for off road usage,

the coils are limited as they can fall out of place from excess travel.

Look up "Roll Center" with regard to suspension geometry. This is the main force that is being affected when the suspension geometry changes.

Push the jeep sideways at the rocker under the door. This would be a simulation of what would happen with stock suspension. Now, push the jeep sideways from the top of the door or rollbar. This would simulate a lifted suspension.

This is load transfer to the sprung mass and that's what happens as you're driving. Forces increase, because of the creation of a moment arm (lever). The moment arm is created because the roll center height changes.

So, in affect it would be like driving down the road with somebody jumping side to side in the back of your Jeep. As you correct the affect by steering input, the load transfers the oposite way, which requires steering input to correct in the opposit direction.

Your Jeep just starts to feel like you can't keep it going straight down the freeway. Almost like there is a cross wind.

Long arm and coil design are not related. Arms locate the suspension. Coils allow the suspension to move. That's called dynamic suspension. And shocks absorb or dampen the suspension movements. A coilover is just a coil and shock mounted together. Another name is strut.

Coilovers are more high tech, allow more control, and generally, with regard to Jeeps, more suspension travel. It's high end stuff that involves a lot of fab work. And, not really street stuff.

as far as I'm concerened, anything over 3.5 needs to be a long arm unless all ya care about is a lifted look.

most all the kits are good, they are different colors and have different shaped/size arms along differnt levels of difficulty to install. they are pretty much all good and work as they are advertised.

I personally avoid kits that incorporate a t-case drop as part of the control arm mounts.. why lift it 4-6"'s and drop the t-case 2"'s? o' yeah the drive line angle!..well ya still end up with a cv shaft anyhow and what about the fan shroud now that the front of the engine just got tilted up?, what was the reason for the lift again?...looks or ground clearance? the t-case drop is plain ugly anyhow.

nth degree, tereflex LCG, re, and rock krawler are my preferences for long arms.

I'm going to say this bluntly and hopefully I don't affend anyone.

Superlift is JUNK. The springs are junk, the shocks are junk and the way they approach bracket design is generally, what can we get away with.

There are only two long arm suspensions you should consider. Nth and RE. There are lots of guys that use other long arms and then if they drive an Nth or RE, they either want to change over or do change over.

Besides, for the price $2700 for the Superlift and $2900 for the RE, that's an easy one. The harder sell is the $3700 for Nth. But when you sart comparing what you get from Nth, It's not more expensive than RE.

Every 4x magazine has done a review of the Nth TJ long arm and has said, with out a doubt, the best TJ suspension lift. And that's not just off-road, it's street manners. Everyone who drives an Nth long arm says the Jeep handles better than stock!

pick up a september 08 4 wheeldrive & sport utility magazine, find page 40 and check out the tj Currie enterprises built...

two inch lift coils, currie J arms, AEV highline fender kit.... = 37" tires
and the roofline is Two inches lower than a stock bodied TJ sitting on 35" tires.

with the exception of all the other mods currie made. you can roll around on 37's with the purchase of some 2"OME coils and and a $2000 dollar fender/hood/flare kit.
or just leave the suspension stock and fit some 34's under it....

You could wheel for three years and not bust up your stock fenders and hood. But, put on the AEV stuff and you'll wack it the first outing.

they are complete and work well.
I've personally not had any trouble with any of em even cheap lifts other than saggy springs.

if yer not planning on a gear change to turn the 35's right away ya otta just stick to tires under 33's.
and get a 2.5"

in case ya haven't seen 34's under a 2.5" lift and 4.88 gears... heres what mine looks like.
