I have a 2002 Wrangler X, great vehicle! We have a very slight leak emanating from where the driveshaft goes into the rear differential. It leaves very small marks in the driveway but it's been leaking for a while now.
I'm guessing it's a seal gone bad. If so, is that a difficult repair? Home or shop?
The vehicle has around 50k on it.

check into the extended warranty there...
7 year 70,000 mile.
there could be more to it than just the pinion seal.

If it's a D35 then there is a crush sleeve. The crush sleeve sets the pinion bearing preload. The yoke and nut that gets removed to change the pinion seal is how the preload gets set. There are tools and measuring devices that are needed. It should be left to the experts.
It will cost $100 to use the warranty. Only free for 3 years, 36,000 miles. Might cost less at a shop.
