so i have a stock 97 Tj with a baby 4 cyl. its got 96,000 miles on it and there are no issues with it. i has the 5 speed stick too. but i was wondering, would it be more cost effective to rebuild the engine, get a new 4 cyl, or to get a new 6 cyl in the future? i do plan on putting a 3-4 inch lift with a bigger tire, not crazy big. thanks a ton for any help

The common recomendation is to sell the 2.5L TJ and buy a 4.0L TJ. It will be cheaper than swaping.
The motor, depending on how well it's been taken care of, could last another 50-100K. Then, the least expensive way to fresh'n it up, is a long block replacement.
If you re-gear when you re-tire, the performance can be kept equal. But, fuel economy will suffer. Gearing is always better than bolt-ons, when it comes to engine performance. And cheaper than a engine swap.
