I have just discovered that the 90 Cherokee I bought has had the connector to the Command trac shift motor disconnected for who knows how long. I'm reasonably sure I need a new one yet the few times I took it off road the 4wd seemed to work fine. So here are the questions.

Is it worth replacing?

Do I need it? Can it/should it be by passed?

What exactly does the motor itself do?
