I am not that knowlegable about the XJ, but I am looking to buy one soon. Could anyone help me, what is the offroad difference between the Classic, Sport, and what other types of XJ's that are out there. You guys told me the XJ would be better for me, rather than M-715, now help me determine the better XJ, I have to buy a 4.0 with NO CRAPPY Dana 35 rear, so any input would be great!

Pre '91 all have motors to stay away from. '91-'01 are substantially the same. The later models have different sheet metal (slightly rounded corners) and better looking interior. But all have the same running gear. Get part-time 4wd (231tc) not full-time 4wd (242tc). Later models have a 8.25" Chrysler rear end in addition to D35s. Some have a D44, but harder to find.
A really nice 2001 will be $4000-$5000. A nice 1992 will be $2000-$3000. So, for the price difference, I'd go for the latest model years.

as long as its got an AW4 trans and a 4.0 you have a solid everyday driver.
