Ok, I'm going to get a new header for my motor. I was thinking about header wrap to help keep the heat down in the engine compartment. I have heard that they are bad for headers due to keeping heat in and moisture issues. I have also heard the exact opposite. Living in Buffalo, NY, with the winters and salty roads, it has me wondering. Anyone with experience with this, I would love the feedback!!!!

header wrap is a good thing. rust wont be a problem if you use a good aluminized or stainless header.
the wrap keeps the the heat in and helps with the scavenging ability of the header.

i would like to add to what mud said. if you get a good stainless or Ceramic coated, i really wouldnt get an aluminized if i were you.
also i dont think you need header wrap on the account you living in NY i dont think a lil engine heat would hurt you.

The biggest advantage is a more even operating temp, which causes less fatique and cracking of the header. As well as not being an oven right below your intake. Less heat in the engine compartment is a good thing all around. Everything lives longer with less heat.
If the header you want is not coated, then send it to Jet-Hot Coatings. It's been a few years since I've had one coated but it's quite resonable. And looks a lot nicer than a wrap.

Well, needless to say, I went with the steel header because my wife would have my nuts for putting any more money into my Jeep. Gotta keep the peace!! When it rots out in a few years, I'll just say "told you so". Since I didn't go w/ a ss header, I'm not running header wrap. Maybe in a few months, I'll cut in some hood vents to keep the temps at bay.
