My son inherited an 82 CJ7 recently that has been sitting in a barn for over a year. The original 258 was rebuilt a couple of years ago and only has about 1000 miles on it. The engine will crank just fine but will not turnover. I have replaced the distributor, cap, rotor, plugs and wires. The coil is definitely getting fire but no spark to the number 1 spark plug. I'm not much of a mechanic but this doesn't sound like too hard of a problem. Is this a timing issue? If so, how can I set the timing when there is no spark going to no. 1 plug? I did make sure that the rotor is pointing to the number 1 wire but the engine still will not turn over.
Any ideas are appreciated. My 14 year old really wants to get this thing running, as do I.
Thanks

if the coil is firering the pick up is working, you sure the rotor is properly installed and the carbon button is in the cap? If theres no spark to any of the wires timming isn't the problem, only one bad wire won't prevent it from starting.
