Ok,

I've seen people mention suggesting lifts and tire sizes and such, but has anyone ever came up with a list of the capabilities and uses for each of the lifts and tire sizes?

I'm personally looking at making my 2001 TJ into a trail and daily driver rig. I'm favoring the 2 1/2 Rancho Rock Crawler lift with 32s, almost the exact setup that "Red" initially had. But I've come to impass. Here in Oklahoma they rate they're trails in three levels amature, moderate and expert. What can I expect of of my Jeep? Can 32s make it thru an expert trail?

2001 TJ Sport
- 4.0L I6
- Sport Wheels w/ 30 x 9.50
- Half Steel Doors
- Soft Top
- Daily Driver
- Standard Tranny
- 3:73 Gears

the rancho 2.5" kit comes with the same shock length as a 4.5" lift, so they articulate the same, the 4.5" coils are barely an inch longer than the rancho 2.5" unsprung. the difference is ride height and ride quality.

I would toot my horn and say I could run the expert trails in a stock rubicon with a new set of shocks or extension and a winch... the levels are more driver oriented and how much damage your willing to do to body parts.

the small 2.5"/1.25"bl and tummy tucker is pretty much gonna do and handle ANYTHING and run 35" tires comfortably.

Dude keep it cheap, look at my ride under ajmille. Keep your O.E.M suspension, get a fiber glass rockcrawler hood paint it w/ bed liner make some mounting brakets and you are good to go up front. The rear you will need to get some upper and lower adjustable controll arms so you can move every thing back 1", cut some body away add some bump stops and then go wheeling. If you add 4" of lift you will have to buy a sye kit for your transfer case, well the list will go on as when you change one thing many other thing will follow. Aslo if you have a dana 35 in the rear you do not want 35" tires.

GOOD LUCK

www.4wd.com has a tire size chart for what lift will fit which tires, they also have a gear ratio chart.

I hate to break it to ya but both of those charts are invalid, especially when ya buy a lift that comes without bumpstops...
you do not need a 4" lift for 33's.. a 2-2.5" is sufficient used with 2" bumpstops.

the gear ratio chart is for a 1-1 ratio tranny, way off the mark for a .69OD ratio.. meaning its giving you the rpms in 4th gear for your 5spd and 3rd in the automatic.

here is a tire size/gear ratio calculator..
follow the simple instructions

Hey guys...I just bought a '98 TJ with a Pro Comp 4" Lift
and 33's..nice lift kit, but like you guys all describe..wanders all over..better since I had the front end aligned..gonna try the hard bushing on the sway bars and drag links..Wish the hell he had got a 2" lift! Has a dropped pitman and all the right stuff..he rode it in the desert and I am making it a daily driver...any suggestions??

Thanks!

If it has a dropped pitman, the front track bar must also be lowered at the frame end by the same amount as the pitman arm drop. Do you see evidence of the track bar being lowered? If it's not, that can cause wierd handling.
