I just got my new differential cover from rokmen and I need to know about the filler plug. I know I have to fill in the threads with rtv but the plug doesnt have a head to it like a bolt and Im wandering when i do it, is it just going to thread in all the way through and drop in my diff? The plug isnt a tight fit either. Even with all the threads engaged it wiggles around. Is this normal or should I go find a better fit?

If it's National Pipe Thread (NPT) (most likely) it will tighten the further it threads into the hole. No sealant is necessary if it is NPT.

If it just threads all the way through, then it's SAE or metric straight thread, and it should have a bolt with a sealing type washer.

Remember, the hole is high for rotated pinions so don't fill to the top of the hole if your pinion is not rotated. Only fill with the spec amount. Otherwise it will leak out the pinion seal or breather.

Ok, that makes sense. There werent any instructions so i emailed rokmen and I already had the jist of what to do but the guy said i should use teflon on the fill plug? Is that a good idea, can it handle the heat? He said to make sure not to but RTV on it...

teflon tape is the way to go, it'll stand up to the heat, i used it on the threaded heater line that runs off my water pump without any problems. the rtv sealant will keep it from leaking, but you'll have a tough time getting the bolt back out. plus if you go a little heavy with it, it could flake off when it dries and end up in the fluid.
