I have a 360 AMC motor and drive train from a 1980 wagoneer that i plan to put in my 1990 YJ. The 360 has a 727 torqueflight on it now with a np-219 transfercase. my question is will my np-231 bolt to the 727 in place of the np-219? I would like to use my 219 if at all possible. The other option is a atlas 2. Any ideas. Thanks for any help!

I'm guessing you mean that you want to use your 231 not your junky full time 219??
The 231 has the circular bolt pattern like the 219. But depending on which tranny your 231 was bolted to, it's input gear could have either a 21 or 23 spline and be long or short. The 219 has a 23 spline input gear.
If it was mated to a AX15 then it's a 23 spline short. Anything else, AX5 or BA 10/5, it's a 21 spline short.
If it's not the right input gear, it's a no-brainer to change.
So, the answer is, it might just bolt up, or you'll change the input gear and then it will bolt up.

Pretty sure that's a 23 spline. If you need one you can get them from Novak.
Ask Novak if you can just swap out the input gear from the 219 to the 231.

A word of caution. You're putting an older engine into a newer chassis. It is not a legal engine swap by federal standards. Make sure that the state and city where you're going to be licensing it will approve the engine swap as far as emission inspection.
The 360 won't pass a sniff test for a '90 chassis in it's stock form.

Correctly stated, your state does not have an enforcement program.
It is against Federal law to remove, modify or remedy inactive any polution control device on a motor vehicle.
