Locker Advice

I've got a 91 Wrangler YJ, and I'm replacing the rear end with a Hi Pinion Ford 9-inch with Detroit SofLocker and 4.88 gears.  I use the Jeep as my daily driver, but I also want to make sure that it's capable off-road.  I go 4-wheeling about 5 times a year, and I want to venture into the more difficult rock crawling.  The front is still the stock Dana 30.  I need to regear the front, so I'll probably install a locker in the front at the same time. I don't want to spend a lot of cash because I might end up replacing the front end down the road.  I think a Lock Right will be sufficient in the front, but I don't know what other options are out there (besides Detroit).  Any suggestions?

I'm thinking about using an Aussie Locker in my front Dana 30. I have a 1999 Wrangler TJ. I don't have locking hubs. Is this a good idea? How will it act on the street?

For 33s or smaller tires, build up your D30. The YJ has a high pinion D30 which is stronger than a TJ D30. The weak spot is the 2 piece axle and small 260 u-joints. Put in Alloy USA axles with 297x u-joints and a cover for the axle disconnect.

If larger than 33s, then don't bother with a locker at all.

The YJ D30 won't last long with a locker and big tires, without new axles.
