hey everyone glad I came across this site.  I love my jeep cherokee but these rocketting gas prices are making me want to get rid of it.  So im thinking about swapping my 4.0 v6 for a 2.5 4cyl.  I have done some research and have come up with the following parts needed 2.5l engine 2.5l tranny and wire harness all from a 95 jeep wrangler not really sure if its will fit right in to my 2000 cherokee not clear if im missing something which is why im here.  If any one has any suggestions please let me know.

thanks

the amount of money it cost to swap and the miniscule gain in mileage youd be crazy to do it. on a 2wd 4 cyl to a 2wd 6cyl the EPA mpg is 1 point higher in the highway same in city and the 4wd the city is 1 mpg higher in the city and same on the highway....

There are lots of guys that report getting worse fuel economy with the 2.5L vs the 4.0L.

Besides, how many years would it take to make up the ROI.

All these people, trad'n in their SUVs for what I don't know. But, they gladly pay a difference of 20k, 30k to the dealer but then complain when they have to pay the gas station 200 bucks more a month.

The math. 30k divided by 200 per month is 150 months. That's 12 and half years. Just to break even.
