hey guys quick question about my dana 44, i bought it at the salvage yard and it said 85 grand wagoneer but i read an article that said in 85 the front axle was a vacuum disconnect and this one is not my main concerne is that i need to order the front locker and ring and pinion and i would like to make sure that i get the right one i also need to order new inner and outer axle shafts with a rebuild kit sorry to bother but is there a way to find out which dana i have thanks for any help.................P III

From the Dana Bill of materials  cross referance. It looks like the disconnect was only 82-84. The BOM is stamped on the left axle tube.

610157 JEEP 44 FRONT 1982-84 WAGONEER, CHEROKEE DISCONNECT STD TRACK

610140 JEEP 44 FRONT 1981-85 WAGONEER / CHEROKEE

610227 JEEP 44 FRONT 1985 GRAND WAGONEER

Sorry, The right, passenger side, on the rear side of the axle tube!

ok i looked on the passengerside and could not find a number and another thing is i ordered some spring perches for the front and rear 44's the perches are both for 2.75 axle tubes they fit the rear out of the rodeo but are going to need to be ground out for the front out of the grand wagoneer i know they had a 3" dana 44 but it is not 3" well thanks for the help............P III

thank you guys i found it and it was on the passenger side but it was in the front and the bom is 610 227 so i guess i lucked out it does have a 3" axle tube once again i would like to thank you guys and Tate at Randy's ring and pinion for the help and putting up with my sometimes stupid questions..........P III

I said left side, based on just being able to look at the diff, then I thought, that's not very clear. So, I changed it and said passenger side. But, then I lost track of which is really the front side or back side since it's a front axle.

Wow, you wouldn't think it would be so hard to write something. Kind of makes you want to cut the JP Editors a little slack when they get something wrong. Nah.
