I HAVE A 1975 CJ6 THAT IS IN BETTER THAN AVERAGE CONDITION FOR ITS AGE.  I HAVE AQUIRED A 1986 CJ7 WITH A DANA 44 REAR AXLE THAT HAS A BODY THAT IS NEARLY RUSTED OFF.  I’M CONSIDERING SWAPING IN THE WIDER CJ7 AXLES TO GIVE IT A WIDER FOOT AND BETTER STABILITY.  IS THERE ANYONE THAT MAY HAVE AN INSIGHT TO THE PROBLEMS I MAY INCURE?  ANY HELP WOULD BE WELCOME.  THANKS

Your '75 already has a Dana 44 in the rear so you would not be gaining anything in strength.

You'd probably not notice the difference in width, performance wise.

What would make a difference is changing the spring width. If your going to the trouble of swapping the axles, swap the springs also using YJ springs. The YJ springs are softer (better ride) and won't roll around in the shackles (tighter ride) like CJ springs do.

I KNOW IT HAS A DANA 44 IN THE REAR ALREADY.  YOU MAY BE RIGHT. I PUT OM EMU YJ SPRINGS AND SHOCKS ON MY CJ8 AND ITS WORKS REALLY WELL.  I WOULD PROBABLY BE BETTER SERVED TO PUT THE 86 44'S ON THE SCRAMBLER INSTEAD.  THANKS.

You can get good money for the D44 from the CJ7 as well as the 300 TC. That would give you some cash for OME (the best!) springs for your CJ6.

The difference in width between the two is 3.5" (51 vs 54.5). That's only 1.75" per side. Not much. Some wheel spacers would tell you what that feels like.

So, sell the good stuff, and put OME YJ springs on your narrow track.
