TJ AXELS IN MY 1994 YJ

I JUST BROKE THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT AXEL ON MY 1994 YJ CAN I USE A TJ AXEL, I WAS TOLD THEY WERE STRONGER THAN THE OLD AXELS.

I think i remember reading about someone using tj front axles because then you dont have to worry about the vacume disconnect on the passenger side. just make a plate to block the hole where the vacume actuator used to go.

The YJ D30 is high pinion (stronger). The TJ is low pinion. The TJ has one piece inner shafts (stronger).

Put new one piece inner shafts in your YJ D30 and it will be better than both the YJ or TJ.

Alloy USA makes a one piece shaft and includes a block off plate for the vacuum actuator hole. I think this might be a TJ shaft, but not sure.

One other thing. The TJ uses a 297 u-joint. The YJ uses a 260 u-joint. But some latter model YJs did also ('94, '95). So, if you have a 297 u-joint in your YJ driver side shaft, it is a "TJ" shaft that you broke. It is doubtful that your '94 has a 297 u-joint.

So, the answer is a 297 u-joint shaft is stronger than a 260 u-joint shaft. Not TJ vs. YJ.

THANKS GUYS FOR THE INFO ,I'AM GOING TO REPLACE THE BROKE AXEL WITH THE SAME ONE BECAUSE I HAVE AN EXTRA AXEL HERE.I'AM GOING TO REPLACE THE REAR AXEL WITH A FORD 8.8. WHAT OTHER AXEL CAN I USE FOR THE FRONT?. THEN LOAD THEM UP WITH 4:88S WELD THE REAR AND GET A LOCKER FOR THE FRONT, GOOD TO GO.

Put Alloy USA shafts in your D30. It's stronger than you think. The axle shafts are the weak spot.

The rear is a different story. A D44 or 8.8 is a good choice. You might take a real close look at the new Rubicon D44 for the rear. If your going to the trouble of retro'n an 8.8, the JK D44 deserves a look. At $1400, how could you go wrong?

What size axle tubes do the jk d44 have. is it 2 3/4" like a standard d44 or 2 1/2" like the TJ?

I don't remember the exact size. They are bigger diameter and thicker wall tube than the TJ.

I'm not sure you could say "standard" D44. The only thing that makes a D44 is the name. You might even say, ok "how 'bout the ring gear diameter"? All D44s don't even have a 8.5" ring gear.

The tube diameters are 80mm (3.14") rear and 63.5mm (2.5") front.
