Howdy all I'm new to the site but I'm on my fifth J33P. I have a 2003 jeep wrangler 4.0 ltr. engine with 36,000 miles, with what I believe to be a 32RH transmission correct me if I'm wrong its the original transmission. It started the other day after setting a few days I started it up put it in gear and nothing it wouldnt move, so I put in reverse and again nothing, back to park then to drive and it then moved fine and still moves fine. Now here is the real problem since then it goes into gear and drives fine however when I slow down and it auto down shifts into first gear it clunks,(Bangs and jars the entire J33p) it kinda feels like a mucle car with a shift kit would feel when it shifts down into first gear almost chirps the tires. Could this possibly be the front pump on the trans. any and all help appreciated. Thanks in Advanced

Sounds like you may still be under warranty, I would take it to the dealer if that is the case.
Or if not, start with checking the fluid and possibly a fluid/filter change for it.
So it's not a Jeep... sue me... it's still faster!

I have an '03 with the auto also. My trans started doing funny things. Shift weird and hard, and clunk back into first gear right before you'd stop. A few days later the Check Engine light came on. Bad TPS indicated. Took it to the dealer and they tested the TPS and said nothing was wrong with it, but they put a new one on anyway. Never shifted weird again.

The dealer will prolly tell you nothing is wrong with it... until the warranty runs out, then they magically know what is wrong! that always amazes me?!?!

The fluid is at the proper level that was first thing I checked. The warranty has expired due to years so I'm on my own it seems. This weekend I will be trying the filter and fluid change and will post back with the results. The throttle positioning switch seems logical and will be what my next step will be if its not the filter and fluid. Thanks for the replies and J33333333p On!!!

I'm not saying it's the TPS. Just thought I would share my experiance.
The thought that I was trying to share was that it could be something more to do with ECM management/control stuff than trans mechanical. My trans acted like it was really messed up.
So, keep an open mind in doing your diagnostics.
