can anyone give me any advice on regearing a dana 44. the shop want $400 to install the gears but i would like to do it myself. thank you

It's not hard, but it is detailed work. The factory service manual has detailed info. It requires a few special tools though. The FSM describes the tools you need. You can get by without all of them but they do make the job easier (less trial and error). Minimum, you need a dial indicator, magnetic base, and a press or bearing installer.

$400 seems on the high end, unless there is a new carrier involved (locker?). So, call around.

I've done this more than once: Removed everything, asked the local 4x4 shop guy to come over on Sunday and set-up the gears, then I put everything back together. That costs me a 100 bucks.

I live in north east PA. Does anyone know any 4x4 shops that install gears?
