I understand the 4 door thing, but youd be surprised how few Jeeps, even the new ones, dont wave at me or my fiancee in her 08 2 door rubicon. If they think it dont get used cause its a JK they are wrong. It might not be rockcrawlin or trail ridin, even though we'd like to, but in the 9 months she has had it, we have had it buried in mud up to the doors, pullin broke tractors on the farm, and it has almost 20,000 miles.

I wrote a letter to this magazine regarding the "Wave". It was never published. I guessed it wasn't a important topic. So here is my version. I have been a "jeeper" for 23 years. I am 37 and purchased my first jeep when I was 14 years old. This was the times of mostly CJ5's on the road and a few 7's and you still saw a lot of Flatties driven every day. The "Wave" to each other was a sign of brotherhood. It was a simbal that, if nothing else, you have one thing in common, you both drive jeeps. It was a symbol of "Peace" and it gave you the feeling that someone you don't know and you have never met is there if needed. That someone has your back. The wave only exists in three common road groups;jeepers, bikers, and truckers. The wave was only in jeepers who drove open tubbed vehicles (CJ's). When the YJ's came out I remember the Yippie jeep that knowone would wave to. Now I have owned 2 YJ's and have a YJ and a TJ sitting in the driveway. "Jeepers" are jeepers at heart. Just because you own and drive a jeep it doesn't mean you are a jeeper. I wave and I get all kinds of waves back. sometimes I get Flipped off too. But I laugh at those people because they don't understand the true meaning of Jeepin and it is their loss. I am having a hard time waving to the JK's too, but I am trying. Maybe in 15 or 20 years I will buy one too.(probably not). But for any of you "Jeepers" out their that make it to Washington and happen to be going threw the little town of Naches and you find a white YJ screeming buy you, you can wave or not wave but this jeeper is there with you in heart and would have your back if you needed. Jeep on !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jeepers are Jeepers no matter how many doors there are. Tj's got the same stigma when they came out with the spring suspension and then with the Unlimited also. The POSERS are the Jeep owners who don't wave when a fellow Jeep owner waves.

hi, new here. this wave is a big problem that has been getting worse over the last few years. as stated before the argument started everytime a new jeep came out. i've been drivung jeeps since yj's. i remember when the tj came out. nobody liked them except the people buying them. now we all execpt them as great jeeps. i drive a 07 4 door but have owned to many 2a's to remember, 3 yj's, 2 tj's, and now a 1945 cj2a and 4 door jk. so how do you know if the driver of that jk you think sucks doesn't have a real,(leaf spring) jeep at home. i never gave it a 2nd thought about waving to the jk before i got one. i don't understand why there is a problem. IT'S A JEEP. if it's a new jk wave to them. maybe they don't know. they will learn, and if not, fuk em. they're not real jeepers. in 3-4 years they'll trade it in for a suv. then we wouln't need to worry about it anymore. just wave back, it pisses off the real jeepers driving jk's that understand.

You can't judge a driver by the jeep they're in. They may own 5 flatties,4 m-series or a surry! If they're friendly enough to notice you're in jeep, appreciate the fact that they can look at traffic and drive at same time. I have a 4dr jk and a cj8 and and an xj and a715 and a 54 willys wagon. My wife and i have a game to see which jeeps wave back so far its toss up most 07's don't know what a jeep wave is,the 90's can be snobs but they were all new once. I can't wait till my jk's paid for so i can drive in a snow storm with no top or doors. But really i could care or less if you wave it's your loss if you're old wreck breaks down and the guy you didn't wave to yesterday drives right by you.

I'm new to this forum. But, I am a true Jeeper. Even though this is my first Jeep, I have loved them since I was a kid and wanted to use them they way they were supposed to be used. I have a 91YJ that is built nicely and I have only had it for a couple of months. In that time I have had her on her side and stuck in the mud. I have waived at every Jeep out there and the only people that have waved back are drivers in 2drs or older Cherokees. I have since stopped waving at the new Jeeps. I found this guide to the Jeep wave and I thought you might be interested in the guideliknes. As I "scored" my YJ I had a score of 94. In other words most Jeepers should be waving at me and then I return the wave. JK

I think the general rule of thumb is avoid waiving to any wrangler with a V-engine or with 4 cylinders..and don't even throw a second glance at any 4x2.
