I have a 91 YJ with 8" suspension lift. I have 16.5 rim and I am not happy with them. I am looking for a new set of rims to get away from the 16.5. Any ideas?

16.5? Anything is better.
What do you hope to accomplish? You'll certainly have more tire choices. 15 or 16 inch keeps the rolling mass down. Seems like 16 would be the best choice for the next few years as far as tire choices.
Steel bends but doesn't break or crack like aluminum. (Can you say pssss?)
Run in the rocks with low air pressure? Cost? Beauty or function?

Yea, I know anything is better. I am solely looking for function. I want to go with a steel rim. I want to run around 5 psi when playing. I don't want anything fancy just functionable. My Jeep is built to go and play except for these tires and wheels. I bought her with it, I hate them.

got any pics?
It must have full size axles with 8 lugs if you have 16.5's
I still run 16.5's BTW.. and never have trouble with them when aired down on the fullsize.

I had to prove to the guys that I was not afraid of body damage. It worked. LOL I am not one for just "trail riding." I am looking to use this thing to it's fullest ability and then rebuild her somemore. I have a D60 in the rear and to change my wheels I think I might have to change the calipers. I am looking at that this afternoon after I get off work.

Someone had to entertain the guys. Well, looking at the calipers I am going to have to use a 17" rim unless I want to grind them. Since I need beaded anyway I am just going to buy new rims and tires. It will be some cash but I need a more agressive tire than I have anyway.

Here is a couple of links to the pics. I couldn't figure out how to post them in the thread.![]() ![]()

Here is what I have: 91 YJ 4.0L Front D44 w/Detroit locker w/4:56 Rear D60 w/Detroit locker w/4:56 Both axles are full width 8" lift Custom rear driveshaft
This is how I bought it a few months ago. We are building a full cage for her, changing tires & wheels, adding winch, builing new top, most likely changing the gears (I have not decided yet) and other various little things.

I'd stick to 16" wheels to keep the cost down, which is what would have been on those axles stock...
if they used chevy or dodge backing plates and calipers the 15" wheel will definately fit, even the rear d60 cause it probably has a 10 or maybe a 12 drum....
you sure those haven't been narrowed? looks like they tuck up under the flaress....

No, they have not been narrowed. Those are just wide flares. Which I don't like either. The guys I wheel with keep joking with me that the little girls pretty wide flares are going to get ripped off. I say good, I will get new ones then. They just laugh at me. The Jeep came from Colorado to Ohio and I bought it from someone here. I got a sweet deal too. I walked away paying 6K. I am pretty happy with her except those damn tires and wheels. I also wanted beaded. A buddy of mine is taking a look at the calipers this weekend to let me know.
