Does anyone know what the value of the 1973 Super Jeep is? I have a stock 1973 Super Jeep that has the chrome front bumper, white dash, orange in color, remnants of the original decals. It had to have been special ordered from the factory with the 304 V-8. Chrysler historical society couldn't offer much for they have few records on these older rare models. The only thing changed on this original jeep is the seats that were recovered from the orange and white, tires, and the steering wheel and of course, the top. Everything else is original with 97,000 original miles. Drives strong but I want to restore this for a show jeep. Most of you will call "BS" on this but it is one of the few Super Jeeps left. I am 100% positive. Let me know if you have any info that can help me out. The decals aren't new from the decal kits that you can buy now on-line. The remnants of the decals are as old as the jeep itself. Thanks.

It's really not all that collectible to all but maybe to a handful of people. I wouldn't expect to get $1000s of dollars for it or anything. It's still just a CJ-5 to most people.

That is the whole point is to find that handful of people. The more I search on the internet, the more I am finding people that would give their right arm for such a jeep. I just found original seats and wheels which was all I was missing so I am going to start on a full frame up restoration and see how the dice fall. To be truthful, for I have been researching this jeep for well over a year now, I think it will bring top dollar and not just merely another 73 CJ. It has enough different pieces such as the two tone seats, white dash and visors, and decal scheme that will draw collectors in. I will let you know how it goes. I think documenting every step of the way is going to be critical to prove that this is a true Super Jeep. In some books out on Jeeps, this is the most highly sought after Jeep from the CJ era. We'll see what happens. Thanks for your reply.

Maybe I'm just trying to pick a fight because the coffee ran out this morning and I'm irritable, but it just seems to me like your sole intent is to buzz up interest so you can turn a higher profit. That's not really what we're about here. Cappa and I have probably hacked up more rare Jeeps in the name of fun than all of our readers combined have restored. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with perorming a restoration in the interests of historical preservation, but you're talking to a couple of guys who think any Jeep, no matter what its history, is better used on a trail getting enjoyed than sitting in a collector's garage. Hell, my '53 DJ-3A is one of three prototypes built and you can see what I did to it: http://www.jpmagazine.com/projectbuild/154_0505_1953_jeep_dj_3a/index.html
Good luck with your resto, but I'd rather see a Super Jeep on the trail with a set of 35s or 40s.

Is it really all about stickers and vinyl color? Maybe if it had a Hemi... Oh ya, that's before it was Chrysler.

Hey, believe me, when this bad boy is restored, it will be more than just a piece to put into someone's garage. I plan on a full 6" lift with large tires, etc. If you have seen the super jeep restored on the website where you can actually buy decals for these, I want to do one similar to that. Keep it as stock as I can with seats, dash, visors, steering wheel, etc but then make it trail worthy. The fact is that there aren't many around. To a jeep collector, that is HUGE. To any collector of anything, that is huge. My point was to find out from the experts if you guys had a value on these. Apparently, to you, it is just another '73 CJ. To me, it is a rare piece of Jeep history that is going to get about a 30K facelift and be not only able to win on the show floor but also perform on the trail. Not trying to sell it. That is the last thing on my mind. I want to preserve a piece of history that most people, even some of the greatest Jeep enthusiasts, have never seen. That is my intent. It will be worthy, that I promise. And to the person who asked if it is really all about decals and vinal. Well, if Jim Allen states in his book that there are only 2 known in existence, then the answer to this is YES, WITHOUT A DOUBT! Thanks for the blogs. You will see this Wyoming Jeep on the trail and at a show someday soon right beside my '76 CJ 5,my '71 Jeep Pickup, and my '08 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon.

I'd be more inclined to spend 30k on a jeep that didn't matter if it ended up with the shinny side down a few times.. otherwise keep it all original.

Last time I checked, there was a big difference in value of "collectables" with matching numbers and those that looked like the ones with matching numbers. Meaning "original".
If it's so valuable, and you're preserving "history", then I think your plans are "wierd".
If it's about making a good looking, good performing CJ5, OK.
Just don't forget the stickers. And get an extra set in case they get scratched.

How many of you have seen an original Super Jeep? Yep, that's what I thought. I have one sitting in my garage all original except for the seats and wheels which I tracked down and are on their way. Sure, it was a package that AMC decided to put out there with a "funky' decal set up and a few other cosmetic differences from the regular CJ 5. The fact still remains, it is rare, like it or not Jeep made a few, and whether you like the decals or not, just like my original post said, "many will call BS on this one". To the last post: It is both, in my opinion. Make a good looking, good performing CJ 5 with a lift and such with a few extras but also keeping it as stock as possible. Nothing wrong with doing both and preserving a little history in the process. I have enough trail jeeps. I don't need to go overboard with this one and putting a lift and 35's on it isn't going to hurt the value too much.

I'm just having fun with you.
My first Jeep was a '74 CJ5 Renegade. I think that meant it had a V8, limited-slip and...
Stickers.
My next jeep was a '92 YJ Islander. I think that meant it had an H.O. I6, the really cool steps, (that got ripped off going over the curb at the gas station) and a BIG beautiful sun...
Sticker.
Now, I have an '03 TJ X. Do you know how easy that X sticker is to remove? About 60 seconds each side.
Now people will have to look really close to see what's my "stuff" 'neth there, instead of looking at my...
Stickers.

lol, when I get my high line fenders and flares on my rubi the rubicon stickers will be no more... the 37" swampers alone will explain the obvious d44 for those who notice...
I'd still leave it as stock instead of a big lift and tires. It'll save a bunch of money...

There is another guy on here who had similar questions about a 73 Super Jeep. Check out the driveline section, page 2 or 3. There is a guy named LANCE MCCOY that has a 73 that he claims only has 3000 miles.
