Would the axles from a comanche work on a 82 Cj-5? Also would the transmission work? I found a parts truck and want to stockpile some parts for this summer.

did a little research and found that cj5s and the comanche did use the same axle of a dana 30, i guess just make sure of the ratio and what side the pinion is on so it matches the t case, the tranny used should bolt up if it had the 4.0/4.2, but someone will correct me if im wrong...

Does not seem like a good parts truck. The Comanche TC is probably a NP207 (junk) and is a left hand drop. The CJ has a 300 (very nice) and is a right hand drop. So front axle is not a good swap. The rear axle in the Comanche is a 35 (junk). The CJ has a model 20. Put one piece shafts in it and it's good. I think the tranny from the Comanche would need an adapter to bolt up to the 300 tc. So, if you're trying to find some value in the Comanche's hard components, unless you are trying to do something special, I don't think the space it would take in your yard would be worth it.

...And if the Comanche has the 2.8 V6, that's junk too. It's a Chevy motor and the bell housing from the tranny would not mate to your AMC CJ motor...
