Whats up!! this is my first post and also my first jeep so bear with me...plan on installing a 4" lift and new rims w/bigger tires, i'd like to go 33" however i see alot of jeeps out there with tires that stick way out beyond the flares, i know about adding larger flares but they would still go beyond that...i want to make a start purchase...i have a 97tj with 6" flares stock rims an tires 30x9.5x15....

5" max...as the stock rubicon wheels, will work, although they have very litte room between the rear spring pad and the sidewall. on the front theres no issues unless the sway bar is disconnected and the tire is stuffed. I've been running on stock rubi wheels w/34x12.5-16 TrXus m/t's.
4.5" backspacing is better for the 12.5's on 8" wheels.
and for the extreme travel and max articulation 3.5" is recommended, though they will stick out.

keep in mind this is a 2.5" lift on 34's...

the rub here was from a broken track bar mount, you can see how close it is to the spring pad

side view with 5" backspacing...no stickin out...
