hey guys...i'm new to the jeep scene...just bought a 86 CJ7 lifted with a 304 4spd in it...had a small engine oil leak so i washed down the front passenger side of the engine with a pressure washer making sure i didn't get the iginition wet...now it misfires and doesn't idle anymore. i took the cap off the dist. and made sure there was no moisture and made sure i didn't pull a plug wire and still its doing this...what could it be? the dist. cap looks like new inside.

I  have an 84 258 i6, i put a dui ignition on it cuz of idle problems only to find out it had a little bit of water in the carb, not enough to kill it but a kwick rebuild solved it. also check vacumn lines and distributor wire connetions even a bad ground wire to the block or battery, just do one thing at a time so you know what worked. good luck

a pressure washer can split plug wires. i think i would start there.run the motor at night w/ the garage light off and you wont be able to over-look the arc.

Or if your nuts enough then while its running you can check your plug wires by running your finger tips all over the wires and boots to see if you get BIT by the blue flame! It dont hurt, done it a few times and I can pinpoint the exact crack or tear in the wire. then replace as needed.
Or you could have a tiny crack in the cap that you cant see w/the eye ball. Id change the cap as theyre not expensive so Id try that w/a new rotor as well.
You just have to be really careful w/cleaning around the dist.as they hate water!
Oh, check you plugs to as the porcelin may be cracked too as that will cause a miss.
