My PS Box is leaking from the bottom seal under the pitman arm. I purchased the seal for that one. I brought it into a buddies shop but we were unable to get the pitman arm off. We went to the point of heating it up, penetrating oil and the puller we were sure was about to break. It still would not budge!? So time has gone by and I have not been able to get it back into the shop yet, since then there is a major leak from the top where the steering shaft enters the box. I know to get the bottom seal out you need to start the vehicle and turn the wheel to pop the seal out. Is there are tricks to getting the top one out? Any further insight on getting the pitman arm off? Are there anyother seals I should replace while I'm at it? Thanks Ahead of Time

Use a Pitman arm puller. Not a standard gear puller. Tighten it up a lot. Then smack the top of the puller and the pitman arm with a ball-peen hammer. Usually works every time. I don't like applying much heat to my steering parts. You can weaken them or make leaks worse.
But, look at it this way. If the box is leaking on the outside, it may be worn enough that there are internal leaks as well. Might be a good time to simply get a new box.

i agree... with the labor and time you have in the old box trying to replace the seals your better off getting new and saving yourself the headache..and also one more thing to not worry about.

yep, and usually if the seal is out it's because of a worn out bushing...

So I'll shop around... til then I have both of the seals. I know the procedure for removing the bottom one, is there anything special for removing the top seal?
