cj 7 2.5 to a 4.2

I have a 80cj-7 and am looking to swapout the worn 2.5 and 4 speed for a 4.2 and auto. Will all jeep auto's fit the 4.2 ???  


96 grand,3.5 Tuff Country,3/4 spacers,rusty's trackbar and mount,dual stabilizers,JCR rock sliders, Dynomax catback etc etc.

the auto for the 2.5 will not fit the 4.2. I am not completely framilier with the early 80's rigs I skipped past. but I know the 2.5 you have is the GM/Pontiac and I believe you have a 300 transfer. most everyone I know have bolted a Chev V8 or V6 directly up and have been happy with it. Ya a V8 would be cool,but I'm only running 31 to 32 inch tires on stock axles. I am looking for info on the jeep auto's so I know what to look for.
