I found a Junkyard that has a 97-98 TJ AC heater box, AC lines, Compressor, Condenser, and everything else you need for AC for $500 that's including shipping. I want AC but then I don't. Is it worth it? Does it do anything for the Jeep value. What does everyone thing?

Take that $500 and invest it in something you will really use!!! Chances are you will be cruising around with the top off most of the time anyway and that space can be taken up by a kilby air compressor to run arb lockers, air up tires or run some air tools out on the trail! A/C always ends up leaking anyway...and who knows how long a junk yard unit will last!

I can't live without the ac myself, the only time the top came off was to haul a ktm home, and then it started raining. I never have trouble with the ac either, even the ac in the burb has never even been serviced since it was new in 98'

ive used my ac a couple of times but burns more gas to use it. hey just think you have more power not having ac killing ur milage and robbing power. 500 seems a bit much to me.

Livin in MS, I have it on my tractor, Jeep, mule, bicycle, etc. I can't live without it. Need it when I run the defrost and on those hot, humid days when you can cut the humidity with a knife. Now if I lived in Alaska, might be a different story. From what I have seen looking at A/C units for my bro n laws YJ, they are running about $800 for the complete unit. Thats just my opinion.

It really depends on where you live...
Back in NJ, I had AC on my 98, and only used it on the way to weddings or funerals... or when it rained to defog the windshield.
In CA, I use it almost all the time.
Sure, CA where I am gets hotter.. but the humidity in NJ is up there. For me, the big difference is in CA, I'm guaranteed to sit in traffic no matter where I go... and the hot air with no air flow sucks. In NJ, you can time your trip to avoid traffic, and driving is just much more pleasant with more air movement.

i ahve ac in my '95, i use it when it's raining in the summer. other than that, the tops off. $500 seems a bit steep for a junk yard unit. if you go that route, see if you can get some sort of guarentee on it. otherwise, i'd go with an after market unit that you know will work.

Thanks everyone. I'm still kind of up in the air about I do travel a lot with my Jeep and it sucks on the freeway because when you have luggage in the back or the top down on a sunny day it sucks. Then again I live in Michigan it can be hot one day and freezing the next. I looked online at Quadratec and they wanted $1099.99 plus shipping and you have to cut holes in your heater box and everything it just seems like a pain. I have a month or so before summer gets going and the real hot weather hit so I'm going to think about some more.
