Hi, guys new to the forum love the Mag.!
I have an '04 Wrangler X with an automatic trans. I was wanting to know if a transmission oil cooler was a worth while performance upgrade. I live in the Houston area and our summers can get pretty darn hot. I am slowly building my Jeep to be a very capable trail vehicle and felt a trans. cooler was a good upgrade for the money.
Any opinions, pros'& cons, and the best place to locate the cooler. Also, what size to use.
          Thanks.

hey we need to hook up and go wheeling at spring creek. i live real close to cypress. answer to you ?? is yes bigger the better!! my transmission went out at 75000 miles and the transmission shop said if i had installed a cooler my trany would have lasted longer.they said that jeeps run hot! and if you by-pass the radiator and run your trany to a cooler that it will also preforme better. I bought my cooler of ebay for 25.00 and it took an hour to put it in, money well spent. the cooler was made for a dodge cummings deisel so it is pretty big butt works great. if you need anyhelp with your jeep feel free to ask i love working on jeeps.

ya the factory recomended t-stat is best, and hook a auxilary cooler to the return line coming from the factory cooler to aid in the tranny temps, the high temps are mostly due to tall gearing and larger tires, causing the tranny to ride the stall convertor, nothing creates more heat to bake an auto tranny than that.
riding the stall also makes the engine work harder and run hot.
