I just bought a new project - a 1952 Willys (?).  The registration says it is a Ford with a VIN of F100206 but the tailgate says Willys.  Did Ford put Willys on the tailgates - seems unlikely.  Anyway, I can't find the VIN on the frame.  I have been looking on the driver's side frame rail by the front bumper.  Would it be stamped or attached with a tag?  There are no other tags on the dash or on the fender well behind the passenger seat.  What do I have here?

Ehhh, Ford only made the GPW during WWII. And they did not have Willys logos. Some early models actually had Ford logos but the military put a stop to that pretty quick. Neither the Ford GPW or the Willys MB had a tailgate. Sounds like someone screwed up the registration at some point. There is no such thing as a 1952 Ford GPW. What does the grille look like? Windshield frame? It could just be a hodge-podge of parts and registration to match. Not uncommon at all.

I'm from Canada guys.  This jeep is supposed to have been built by Ford Canada.  Ford built them between Feb. and Nov. 1952 - apparently they built 2,135 of them.  It was called an M38.  I got this from www.m38al.ca/m38.html.  The Willys tailgate may have been piece-mealed.  The VIN is supposed to be F100206 but I can't find it on the frame and the tags are gone.

There were some M-38s built in Canada. However, they were built by the Canadian Willys subsidiary. They were referred to as an M-38CDN. But yours looks pretty modified. Anyway, I can assure you it's not really a Ford-built Jeep.

I think you'll find you have a hodgepodge of parts. Does it have a glove box? That would make it an M38. You clearly have a modified hood. Thats an M38 gas tank, CJ3 windshield and military bodies don't have tailgates. Does it have the military plates on the dash?

I have a 1953 Ford M38A1cnd, Dash plate reads "Ford Motor Co of Canada LTD" # F-200678. I know of many M38 that have the same dash plates. If your M38 is a canadian model then the registration will say Ford.
From what I have been told Willys contracted Ford Canada to build these for Canada and over seas.
