On my 99 tj the linkage is adjustable. Its just a bolt that pinches the rod in place. Its up by the shifter. Spray it down and let it sit for a while because it WILL be a bear loosening. Check the position of the linage in 2wd. Shift it in 4 low and see how it moves. Loosen the bolt and use a pair of pliers to move the t-case the rest of the way in 4 low. Tighten up the bolt and check it for proper operation. Thats about it. Good luck!!!!!!!

if it has a body lift it can mess with the linkage also due to the linkage being attached to the body. if so, there are kits out there to fix that, or you could fab something up yourself.

good point. also a skid plate drop kit like in some of the 4" lift kits will do it too. i had a bracket to fix that with the kit before i went with a sye.

Had to replace mine on my 03. I have a three inch body lift kit also. There is a slide adjustment on it ,mine was doing the same thing stayed in high but not low. Mine was bad where thew rubber bushing met the rod and attached to the t-case. Bought he whole part foe $25.00 and replaced it. took about One hour, u need to drop the skid plate first ..be sure to get a jack under there to hold the tranny up while dropping skid plate. three bolts on the linkage and your done.

I have the same problem. After installing a 4" lift. The transfer case was lowered. Wont shift into 4-lo. A bracket seems to be in order. Anyone have a pic of the bracket you used? Or of the bracket kit?

If you have a Body lift you will need to get the kit that will drop the linkage down and in aline again. Like I said earlier I had to replace mine, on my 03 TJ. There is a rubber bushing in the linkages that went bad on mine because it was not aligned right . But after getting the linkage exstention that drops it down about three inches it all feel into place.
If you can't find the kit go to your local Fab Shop and they could make you a bracket up in no time. All they have to do is get underneath and look at the linkage they well no what to do . it's on the underside of the drivers side. It is possible to that all you need to do is get underthere yourself and look at it. it's easy to adjust the slide bar that controlls the shift.
You will have to get up and down a few times to see how it works after adjusting it or have someone in the jeep working the lever while you are under it to adjust it.
Look at the rubber bushing make sure it is tight and not torn or loose. If it is replace the bracket. It is a dealer item only for my 03 not sure about others. The bracket is where the extention is needed you can see where it was factory mounted on the body if you look. if it is not dropped down and you have a lift it needs to be or it well always not work right if at all.
P.S. you have to replace the whole braket. you can not just replace the bushing (sadly) They make it where you have to buy the whole part.
If you do check at a real jeep dealership not a dodge dealership they will charge you about $40.00 more then it really costs.
Happy trails

front and rear must match...the front is a d30 while the rear could be a chrysler 8.25, d35 or a d44..
I don't know what the ratio is.. If you can tell me what your cruise rpm is in Overdrive @60mph and the specific tire size on your zj I can figure it out.

Which is regarding my ZJ....After my Car Foreman dismantled my ZJ's rear Axle to confirm the Ring and Pinion ratio....the result is 11:41 mean 3.73 ratio, does it mean I have to Match the same Ratio to the Front Axle? because it is Full time 4wd model....?
