Well im at a cross roads, weather to stay with my 1987 stock V6 or take advantage of a great opportunity and move way up to a 454 V8,

Does anyone know if this is possible,I have seen some done but i have not heard  anything from some one who has actualy done the work.

For all your going to spend getting that big block in your Jeep, you'd be better off going with a small block 350. 5.3 or 5.7 would be a couple of good choices. You can find them fairly cheap at a junk yard or look around on eBay or craigslist. That 454 would be better off in a truck. Just my opinion.

I myself am getting ready to put a 5.7 in my 95 later this summer. I just need to get a few things that I can't quite afford just yet. Well, good luck with your project.

Not sure you are ready for a V-8 if you think your stock YJ engine is a V-6....A 454 will fit but if you go that rout plan on swapping every other drivetrain componenet as well. The 454 will eat your tranny, spit out your Dana 35 rearend, pulverize your Dana 30 frontend, and require a different transfer case. A 454 is possible though. The Curries did it a long time ago. Sweet Jeep but not cheap.

I'd go small block v-8 or diesel.  The price of gas, with the mileage numbers of a big block ( think single digit fuel mileage on the highway and worse wheeling ) Then you have to consider new axles, tranny, transfer case, etc. the free engine does not offset the other costs associated with that power and even if you could get all the other stuff for free or next to free.  You wouldn't be able to take it out and wheel and have fun with it without dropping a paycheck in gas.

it's no harder than installing a small block, the bb uses the same mounts and mounting position as the sbc does, there could be cooling issues....

like Cappa say's It'll eat your stock drivetrain for lunch! depending on which 454 it is and whats been done  to it. a warmed over sbc can run off and leave the 454.

Hey there,

What do you mean by saying "if I think my Yj has a V6"? And this engine  is great shape and many performance parts on it. The labor is going to be free , due to some favors im cashing in on. The engine is just sitting there, I think im going to do it, Ive seen some Cj's on Youtube with them and they kick ass. But i do understand what you are saying...

Are you going to replace the engine and trans or just engine. Where are you looking for the adapters? Ive been on Advance Adapters , do you know of any other places.

let me point out a key word here in what cappa said....

"Not sure you are ready for a V-8 if you think your stock YJ engine is a V-6"...

I'm sure there was no offense intended there
