When will the Diesel Wrangler come?

Over the last few months I have been reading several forums concerning the Diesel Wrangler.  People are screaming and kicking for one here in the U.S.  I have written to Jeep twice and all I have received from them are halfass answers.  Chrysler needs to pull their heads out of their butts, stop playing switchem and produce a diesel jeep wrangler.  They have told me they are having emission problem and I am like duh, why don't they fix it instead of sitting there with a blank stare.  I would buy one right away if they would produce the diesel version wrangler.  So my question is when will Chrysler wake up, smell the coffee, have the light bulb come on and produce a diesel wranger for us to actually drive?

i asked him and he said yes it is supposed to be a cummins. and im sorry but i said the wrong thing earier. he said it will be available in 2010. but they will be making them in 2009. so when the 2010 model year vehicle comes out in the end of 2009. he also said that they are working on a couple vehicles now with new style bumpers that have winch mount plates and other parts that used to be aftermarket stuff. but the company is trying to tap into some of that market so they will be offering alot of stuff as factory options that used to be aftermarket stuff. this is a plus cause it will help maintain your warranty. more info to come.

What are the advantages of the diesel besides the torque? I have read that there is some "lag" when you hammer on it. I have drove them but never really paid attention to how it would do in a Jeep. Just trying to understand what all the fuss is about a diesel.

The new diesel that the big three and imports are pumping out are not like an old 70's motor with bellowing clouds of black some coming out of them. They have better fuel economy, better acceleration, less emissions at the tailpipe, higher torque ratings, and even more Horse Power. Also because there is no use of a spark plug (there is a glow plug instead) the engine can be completely submerged and still run with the use of a snorkel. Unlike a standard gasoline motor which you have to water prof for prolong use in water environment.A diesel runs completely on compression so the fuel burns completely unlike in a gasoline motor with there can be wasted fuel and a diesel can run for 300,000 mile+ an not a have problem. Take a look at the CRD a 3.0L diesel (215hp at 3800rpm, 376lb.-ft between 1600-2800rpm and gets between 19-23mpg*) that blows away the horse power and torque ratings of the TJ's 4.0L (190hp at 4600rpm, 325lb.-ft at 3200rpm and gets 14-19mpg*), the new KJ's 3.8L (202hp at 5200rpm, 237lb.-ft at 4000rpm and gets 16-19mpg*), and the Liberty's 3.7L (210hp at 5200rpm, 235lb.-ft at 4000lb.-ft and between 17-22mpg (That's sad that the Liberty has more horse power then the Wrangler what was Jeep thinking?)*). With a diesel you get the horse power and torque through the whole power band which is great for off-roading, rock crawling, and towing. Look at the RPMs that the power is reached is much lower in a diesel compared to the  gasoline engines. You are getting the power sooner in the diesel without working the engine hard.

*All horse power and torque ratings where done at the flywheel.

that explains it. I have driven the super duty and the new duramax, but never realized the pros to having that setup in a Jeep. Thanks.

Hmm... I'll believe it when I see it.

We have all seen the diesel JK's and JT's, and thus far they have all had the same 3L CRD that the Grand currently has. But as of now I have yet to hear anything about a production date for a Diesel JK. Though if I were to speculate I'd think 2010 isn't too far off base.

So it's not a Jeep... sue me... it's still faster!

I so cannot wait for the diesel wrangler to come out.  With more power and better mpg, it won't hit my pocket book hard.  Gas prices are on the rise especially out here in Hawaii.

I'm one of diesels biggest fans, but I just paid 3.75 a gallon in Toledo, ohio a few minutes ago, man It hurts a 180 gallons at a time!

The diesels are more efficent and longer lasting and loads of power especially down low.  But the oil companies are continually increasing their bottom line even with diesel.  It's about 3.70 here where gas is 3.04.

Out here in cali fuel prices are the worst with the exception of geepman out there in Hawaii, just came back from there and the gas prices were high, but the news is gas will reach $4.00 a gallon this summer.

I been driving my Cummins 3.9 4bt equipped 95 Wrangler since last May . The first thing I noticed is a 10 mpg increase in  fuel mileage . The acceleration is pretty good , I have the pump turned up a little . I turned the pump way up for about a week and got scared on a rain slicked road ( saw Jesus ! ) and decided to back it off a little . It tows like a monster , climbs mountains like they were molehills . When I am off in the brush I like the fact that I dont have to worry about any electronic failures ( fuel pump , computers , various sensors . The lag you mentioned can be minimized by turbo size and injection pump adjustments .

the diesel generally has no lag as a gas engine does...

BTW monster...
I paid 3.99/9 for diesel in sacramento yesterday!! 3/10

I'm thinkin the wrangler will need some stronger axles than a d44 to handle the 375# of torque and 215hp..especially when a set of 35's get slaped on it..
