hey there everyone.....well i finally rolled my tj last week and of course I was playing around by myself....mistake # 1!
climbed out of a gully without checking the top of the hill first....mistake # 2!!
didn't have my recovery gear with me.....mistake # 3

So, my baby was turtling on her back, paws up for about 3 hours until I was able to recruit my buddy, his truck and a tow strap.

Questions:
1) what are the steps i need to take to get the tj runnin??
2)do the roll over valves reset themselves when the jeep is upright again or do I need to reset them myself?

I was pretty impressed that I didn't loose all my fluids....guess its sealed up good & tight....but I did get a bunch of oil in the air flow tube and then into the throttle body when the jeep was righted. If I push the butterfly open I can see alot of oil in there. Any tricks to getting it out without taking the entire intake apart???

pull all the plugs and crank it over for about 10 seconds at at time till oil quits squirting out, clean up the old plugs, and it should start. you'll have  nice smoke show for a while after it fires up, be sure to clean the filter box and replace the air filter, make sure all the fluids are up to operating levels,

if you spray or dump some kind of solvent, carb cleaner, brake clean, gas, or whatever down the intake to clean it out don't turn over the engine untill the oil has been changed, it will waste the bearings if it gets circulated through the oil pump.

I had my 03 on its side for over 24 hours and there was no baffles I had to mess with to get it started. it wasn't completely upside down either...

my battery got ran dead trying to get it uprighted with the winch, then there wasn't anyone I knew that could get to the location...my full size was to big and the cj couldn't make it up the hill.

Thanks for the heads up on the solvant deal....didn't think of that.

I can't get it to turn over.... I turn the key and it turns but wont engage. I mean it wont turn over the crank....it almost feels like it is jammed.  No grinding or anything like that....battery feels strong, starter seems ok....but it wont turn enough to pump out the oil. its very hard to describe.

with the plugs removed it won't turn over?

it's best to turn it by hand the fist couple turns, then use the starter...it's not gonna crank either way till the plugs are removed...

I hope ya didn't try to drag it cause it could bend parts if it did turn a little....good luck, It should be a easy project though.

If you shut the engine off as soon as your jeep came to a stop, shouldnt be any problem. To be on the safe side,I would pull the spark plugs for oil, also check the dipstick for coolant.Good luck

it doesn't take much time for the oil to run through the rings when they are upside down...it won't get water in there uless it was underwater.

Yea....awesome.   Nice thing about jeep doors....if you leave the lock nuts off the hihges.....they fall right off like escape pod doors when you push them open!!   This is also a graet way to get loose change out from those hard to reach places!!
