At 34,000 miles my door panels began to crack.  Now the plastic is very brittle and crumbles in your hand.  The handles are falling out.  My jeep now has 44,000 miles.  Jeep will cover 50% of cost.  Full price is $2,800 for all four door panels.  That means I only have to pay $1,400 to replace my defective handles.

Who says Jeeps are tough?  I think otherwise.  In fact, a honda civic is apparently alot tougher.  Other than my obvious statement of opinion who gave Jeep a chance to make me an enthusiast, I am wondering if anyone else has seen this problem.  If so, please e-mail me at txsway@yahoo.com.

I do not know about the real jeeps like the wrangler, but do not buy the civilized versions.  I will now not buy another JEEP unless I invest in restoring a CJ5 or CJ7.

Good luck.

Both back doors are disintegrated and I drive the car 95% of the time with nobody in the back seat.  The plastic broke on its own.  Very strange.  Also, JEEP surely is responsible for the plastic in their vehicles aren't they?  If not, are they responsible for the steel or the rubber?  What are they responsible for?

Also, my wife drives a 2000 Jaguar, which by the way is not a car known for reliability.  The doors still work great!  Rock solid compared to the JEEP.  In fact I do not believe I have ever seen an interior crumble like the JEEP has.

Also a few last comments.  First, the service manager at the dealership punched a hole in the plastic using his index finger.  Second, I took a piece and crumbled it in front of the service manager like a cracker.  And lastly, you must have been a long-time JEEP owner to believe that it is normal for your vehicle to fall apart.

It is one of two things.  First, whoever made the plactic may have made a bad mix that became brittle.  Second, something was put on the plastic that deteriorated it.  Since I have been taking the vehicle to a local car wash and have never cleaned the interior (other than vacume the floor) myself, it would have to have been something the car wash put on the plastic.

I mentioned the dealer earlier, which by the way is very close to the car wash.  The service manager stated he had never seen this before.  The car wash is huge, one of those with many employees washing many cars.  I am sure they wash many other Jeeps as well.  If it were something they were using, the service manager would have seen it before.

i see what your sayin of the mixture schit like that can happen...and about somthin wiped on it from car wash places...they use nasty chemicals to get stuff clean (interior/exterior) especially if they have acid residue from cleaning aluminum wheels...id see if they ( the carwash)have some type of acid to clean wheels.thats probably what made it a cracker! and 3rdly im not a long time owner of jeeps, altho i have owned 3 of them.i own newer rigs that are caked with plastic and know that plastic breaks and is flimsy and pour quality especially with how the panels or any plastic part is mounted
you know one thing i never seen go titts up was on 80s style and older in any make or model
