new to this forum, i have an '04 wrangler unlimited and would like to know whats a good choice of tire to replace my goodyear gsa's. living in chicago where the steets suck, the ride on these tires is harsh. i have no mods on jeep, will probably never go off-road, any advice would be appreciated

if you have the money, invest in some michelins. I favor the ltx m/s if you arent really going off road.  If those are too pricy, which they might be, i suggest some cooper h/t's. they are a nice tire, especially for the price.  you really have a plethora of nice tires to choose from. Goodyear forteras are good tire, i think there is an article in JP about them.  Remember, you get what you pay for with tires.  I change tires for a living and there couldnt be a truer saying.  hope some of this babble helps

thanks jeep420, i was checking out the tire rack site and might be leaning toward the pirelli scorpion atr's. their price wasn't too bad and some of the reviews i've read were encouraging.

the load range is a key thing in ride quality. generaly a for a jeep theres no need for a load range above a C rating. for a daily driver that sees little or no off roading can even benefit from a passenger car tire instead of a light truck tire. D and E just get heavier/stiffer carcases and ride stiff. the E load range is around 3,000# nearly enough to support the jeep driving around on one tire. I'm sure jeep420 could better explain the load ranges further better than I can...

if comfort is the primary objective, then i would stick with a standard load tire. i have noticed that lighter vehicles with d or e load ranges tend to have problems with tires cupping. mud is right on the load range c being enough but i think thats out of question for wackyjack.  I know that pirelli makes some premo performance tires, but im not too sure how i feel about their truck tires.  I really havent put too many pirellis on.  if you do get them let me know how they ride.

My favorite tire for a street bound Jeep is the Michelin Cross Terrain. I have had three sets on my Cherokee. The family road Jeep. In MA harsh winters and heavy Spring rains. Wet traction never fades over tread life.
Quiet. and at least 60K miles. Last set I bought at Costco a couple years ago. $125 each.

I agree with fishgutz, I had the Michelin Cross Terrains on my 98 LR Disco and they were very quiet and lasted 80K miles!
