I have a 1995 Jeep Wrangler and my AX5 transmission is currently not going into 3rd or 4th gear.  Can anyone tell me if this is common and if so, does it require a complete tranny rebuild?

I know you guys are use to people asking for this kind of help, but if you could let me know whether or not I have to pull the tranny and do a complete rebuild, I would greatly appreciate it.

Not to speak for everyone out there. but I don't think anyone can answer that question for you. I however would take into consideration the miles on the rig. It probably has enough miles on it that it should have a tranny rebuild anyway. Price it because I find yj383
is correct.

i know this thread is a little old, but i thought i'd throw this out there anyway. if the trans. just grinds when you try to engage the gear it could be syn. or possibly bearing failure.  if the trans acts normal but doesnt go into the gear, then possibly shift rail or fork issues. in either of these situations trans would need to be pulled out. however more info would be required to make a good judgement.
