Ok everyone I drive a 1998 Jeep Wrangler Sahara with 92,000 miles on it. It's got a 4.0L I6, a 3-Speed Transmission, NP 231 Transfer case, Dana 30 front, Dana 35 rear, and the body and chassis are in great shape along with the interior. My father said you know you Jeep is 10 years old you should thing about getting rid of it and getting a new car because the resale value is going to deprecated. I looked at him and was like what? This Jeep was my very first car I drove it though out high school and am now driving it back and forth to college I bought it with 52,000 miles for a song because it had a cracked header. I fixed that and have been driving it ever since. I’m not a hardcore off-roader. I may hit a dirt road or two or go to the Sand Dune on the west side of Michigan but nothing to Extreme. So I told him that I was keeping my Jeep till it blows up and then I’ll rebuild it. I can always get another car and keep this as my winter car but I can find ever part I need online and the Jeep is a great. For a new motor I could get another 4.0L for under $3,000 or a 4.6L Golden Eagle motor for $4,000 or go big and buy a Hemi for $8,000, a trans rebuild kit $150 and another $150 for a shift kit or a new trans for $1,500, transfer case is an easy rebuild, swap out the Dana 30 and 35 for a Dana 44 $4,000, the body panels are cheap and the chassis isn’t too hard to find. There is nothing you can’t find for a TJ now of days. So what do you all think when is a Jeep to old and should be put out to pasture?

I agree. Jeeps get better with age. They are the only vehicle I ever heard of classified as "OLD IRON". and thats a good thing. I have a 92 YJ 198000 miles. never been rebuilt. no huge lift. 4 banger engine and I use it as a hunting rig/4 wheeling on the weekend rig and I still can drive it to work because I get 20mpg out of it.( my truck gets 10mpg) Yah she rattles a little and Jeeps don't have frills but I am not sure anyone on this site will tell you to sell it. You will not lose money just a good rig. unless one of us want to buy it????? I am always looking for #8 in the fleet.

yep, what everyone else said. it's paid for, you know what you got in it, if anything goes up, there's a boat load of parts and options available. it was "suggested" to me once to trade in my '95. that was the one and only time that conversation took place (it wasn't pretty......LOL)

Nowhere near too old. If it was a Cavalier or a Neon, your Dad might be right, but the 4.0L-I6 will go on for 200,000 easily.
No need to even think of a new engine. Just keep changing the oil & fluids, the brake pads, and the occasional water pump, and it will serve U fine.
I drove 2 of 'em to over 200K miles, no sweat. It's A LOT cheaper to keep & maintain than buying another vehicle. I sold my last one with 248,000miles on it for $3400!
You also might be surprised by your Jeep's current (high) resale value. Nothing 4 U 2 worry about! Check www.kbb.com

keep the jeep,it never gets old having a rig to have fun with...what get old is spending $30K on a car and spending another $3K in gas prices over the year and insurance and up to $500/mo for it too, youll never have any money for fun. so keep it and youll spend less on it for gas and maintance parts only and still have plenty of cash for whatever you want to do.

A Jeep's never to old. I've got a 75 CJ5 that wheels with the best of'm and still a daily driver. With the aftermarket as strong as it is for these Jeeps, you can keep it forever and always find parts.
