Is it really like that??

Just wondering if it is really that bad. My mission is to buy a 1997 - 1999 Jeep for $4000 or less. And for an added challenge, I thought I would do it from Iraq where I can only use the internet and phones for a very limited amount of time. My problem is that every time I have one lined up, I get the wife en-route to make the purchase for me, when..........the vehicle is suddenly sold to someone else before she gets there or they try and jack the price way up. It seems once the seller finds out that we are a military family (it's pretty easy to pick us out of a crowd) that they don't want to deal with us like we are a plague or they think we are made of money and my wife is stupid. This has happened 12 times in less than 2 months. All I want is a Jeep the kids and I can work on and have some off road fun in.

I have been in Iraq for 9 months with 6 more to go. Is the sentiment toward us serving our country really that bad???

If anyone knows of a 1997 - 1999 TJ, 5 Speed, 4.0L with A/C in southeastern Ohio area (I know you're out there) for around $4000 or less, I am in the market.

wow, is that really happening?
I thought the 70 were over! my dad is a vet also.

I do know they can be found cause I run accross cheap ones occationally without even looking, I wonder if the responce to the seemingly low price is just overwelming.

using the inet makes it easier to find the masses but the purchase is just sight-unseen. I imagine you expect to end up with various problems

tell ya what..find one anywhere in the 48 and make the purchase, I can personally arrange the transport in most cases to your welcome mat out front for a fair rate from the specific zip to zip, It's what I do BTW. and can have some control over the cost. I will gain nothing other than personal satisfaction.

First off THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE IN OUR MILITARY AND TO YOUR FAMILY FOR ALL THAT THEY HAVE TO GO THROUGH BECAUSE YOU ARE OUT THERE DEFENDING OUR COUNTRY.  I am a vet myself and I thought that we are out of the 70's and people had learned always support our armed forces.  Whether or not they agree with the war or president. Good luck finding the Jeep, I honestly don't know what the market is around the Dallas/Ft. Worth area but I'll try to look around.

First, I would like to thank all of you for your support. The military is a tough job if you have a a family. It just pisses me off when people disrespect my wife and kids because of the job I do. Take it out on me not them.
Anyways, got a few good leads on some decent Jeeps. Hopefully, one of them will be mine. Again, thank you all, Support the troops!

I dont think anyone is targeting military personnel. Probably what is happening is just that someone is just getting there before you with the cash. I know that when I have something to sell the situation can be frustrating with all the people that say they will be right over and never show. I'm not defending the seller by any means , just assesing the situation . Thanks for what you are doing in Iraq . Keep your head down !!!

Possibly. Seems like everywhere I go someone wants to see the swap and ask questions . I dont mind , wish I would  have had someone to ask questions when I was  putting the thing together . Shame on me my place on the coast is 30 miles from Florence dunes and Ive never wheeled there . Seems like the only time I have to go wheeling is Mudfest which may not happen this year . Right now I am in OK for work . Once I get settled in I'll check out the wheeling scene around here .

i know what you mean rockstar. when i got back from my assignment in korea back in the '80s, i flew into oakland,ca.....man, talk about maggot infested, leftover hippie wannabees. it took alot of personal restraint for me to not break someones neck.....calling me a baby killer. i hope your jeep search pans out for you, i know that dealerships around military posts seem to yank the troops around too. there's a dealer here in pa that sells nothing but jeeps (got mine there) the units are in good shape, he fixes what he can and sells them at a fair price. i could call the guy and get some quotes for you, if you'd like.
