slowly over this past year ive been trying to come up with a cheap bulit proof axle swap.
the idear right now is 9inch rear 456 gears and a detroit locker.
dana 300 tcase without flip kit.
for the front pass side drop 44 front. out of like a dodge p/u or ramcharger preferably with manual locking hubs and 456 gears and ox locker
oh and im wanting to run 456's for 33's to 35 inch tires. and a 6inch long arm or high clearance havent desided which.
now the question is what do you guys think?

ahhh, that helps, yeah the 4.56 is a good choice for the 35's with a 3 speed auto, the 5 speed I'd go to a 4.88 at least. also the chevy 10 bolt or earlier d44 will also work there are you gonna stay full width?

yes im staying full width. umm when i checked the tire and gear ratio chart it said 456 were good for 33's to 36's daily driver best overall performance. and ive heard some bad things about chevy 10 bolt even tho i like chevys. also the dodge 44 is five lug and the gm should most likely be six.

k now theres a small problem with tire size/gear ratio charts...they are only figuring the final ratio at 1-1..this is all great if you have a three speed auto ar a four speed manual, I don't know which you have so heres the deal... most say slightly lower rpms for OD trannies....way wrong there, thers many different Od ratios that can be nearly 1000rpm slower than the chart shows them..if you have the NV3550 5 speed...the ratio is .78 that puts the rpm @65 about 2219 with 4.56's..vs 2850 at 1-1 (3 and four spd) It'll work good and is match to the original 3.73's and stock tires but there is alot more resistance to a 35x12.5, the 4.88 gives it what it needs to keep up. it'll be about 2375rpm @65. which will be the best over all for town driving.
if your going full width you'll be swaping the rear also, the TJ has a 5 on 4.5 lug spread..the dodge is 5on 5.5 so yer lookin at new wheels anyway. right? the chevy 10 bolt front is essentially an upgraded d44, no problems there..the 10 bolt rear has some diffuculties when used with large tires on the full size...for the rear I'd rather have the d44 or 9" also. theres a little difference in a 3500# tj and a 5500# blazer.

33's are what i was mainly wanting to run and i figure i could go to 35's 36max if i didnt think the 33's were enough

oh idk it will be driven around town and off road. because il have to see what it can do. lol but not totaly trash the body. id like to take it on small rock gardens to see how the long arm will flex and see if i like rock crawling. im building it to be able to handle rock gardens but might stick with trails.

How much are you looking to spend.....tires, lockers, wheels, t-case, etc. or do you already have all the parts you need?

lol..look what I missed while I ws messing with the wheels!
yeah you can put the cj hubs on the 10 bolt and use the 10 bolt backing plates and brakes and make that work out well for a 5 on 5.5
