Will an NP205 be a direct replacement for the 79 Quadra-Trac?

Is the NP205 any better that the Quadra-Trac?

i dunno if the np205 will be a direct fit it just an idea i had. there are places that make a part time conversion kit for the quadra trac. the np205 is way better than q trac, the np 205 is a 1 ton gear driven monster tcase the q drive is chain driven expensive to repair and known for its problems.

wouldnt a np 231 be a direct fit      im not sure but it seeems like i read this somewheres  

I believe the output is way off  

no. there is no direct replacement without a tranny swap. everything will have to be adapted. the output shaft on the thm 400 is unique to quadra  trac about the best  swap is a dana 20 the adapter kit is about 500 dollars

Would it be possible if the output shaft on the thm400 was swapped out to some other spline?  I believe the output shaft is a 10 spline and kinda long.  Any ideas there?  

i got a dana 20 off of a t-18(75 j-10) for $50=shipping,may need rebuilt though  

From what I have read the best replacment for the Quadra-trac is the Model 18 transfer case.  It has the same offset on the front and rear output shafts so that the axles don't need to be changed.  Either Novak or Advanced Adapters make a conversion kit so that the T-18 will connect to the TH-400 automatic transmission.  In addition to changing the rear axle another problem with using other transfer cases which don't have the offset drive is that due to the length of the automatic transmission the rear drive shaft is very short.  This causes u-joint problems if one installs a lift on the vehicle.

Is there a transmission that will bolt up to a 304 and dana 20 or dana 300 that will fit in a79 cj?
