Exactly what I mean. There is so much you have to do to your engine to make it run perfect after you add a high performance air intake. I'm sure he doesn't want to deal with a bunch of other crap. I'm just saying there's better ways to add power.

Here's a thought from abuddy of mine. He said not to waste money at all on a "cool air intake" from anyone. Just buy the cone shapped filter and slap together some PVC and fixtures and save about $150.
Sounds good to me but I'm a bit of a skeptic. What do you guys think?

I'm not real hip on PVC in this application, but whatever trips your trigger. If you are handy, can develop adequate mounts, and make it work and survive, rock on.
Just PLEASE don't get one of those tri-angle carb/TB-mounted faom filters. I had one that following a backfire caught fire ahd burned the paint off my hood (different application, fut fire is fire)

That will work as well but it won't look as good, and I'm too lazy LOL

I put an el cheapo intake from e-bay on mine and did not really notice a diff. Couple of weeks later I upgraded my injectors (from a '93 ZJ) for more fuel flow and got rid of my muffler to run only thru the converter and felt a significant seat of the pants difference.

WOW no mufler? It must be loud!! I'd get pulled over with no exhaust around here. But i do agree that you need a combination of upgrades that work together.

it's not overly loud at all, kind of throaty sounding. The cat is still on and does a pretty good job of keeping down to a dull roar. I read about doing this somewhere. Coulda been JP, until recently I read a couple of other mags also.

PVC? Spend the extra $ on one of the many properly engineered systems, unless of course you want something that looks like a sewer system under your hood. I will not even get into the air flow dynamics.

dmh performance makes an electric cutout for your exhaust its 200 bucks and you can place it anywhere along your exahust system but just behind the headers would be prime. not sure if you would have enough backpressure though? but you can have the gate open when you need a little more power and a LOT of more noise and then you can close the valve when you see a cop or you pull up your driveway at 3 in the morning.

Borla headers work great. In a little over 2 hours I bolted on the header and cat-back exhaust. Perfect fit. Better sound. Seat of the pants feels a little better.

I was looking at the BANKS tourge(sp) step , ceramic coated one. I'm also concidering the Dynomax cat back super turbo system. It's far less expensive then the stainless steel ones. It's aluminized. and is only 185 bucks Canadian. You can hear them online at dynomax web site.
If I had more money I like the sound of the magna flow.

Banks does have a great rep. but as far as cat-backs go, some of that aluminized stuff may not be as cheap in the long run as one of the stainless steel sytems if you end up having to replace it every two or three years, where as Borla and Banks offer great warrentees on thier stuff. If I you go with the Banks header I'd get thier cat-back as well. As the saying goes, "pay now or pay later." Just a thought.
