Has anyone replaced the windshield in a TJ at home? Is there anything to be aware of in the replacement? Around here replacement runs $275 - $300. Seems like robbery to me.

I just had my windshield replaced on Good Friday by safelite autoglass for $215 after taxes in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. This price was for doing it in my driveway.
From watching the replacement it looks pretty easy. They cut the seal on the outside only, pulled the seal out, pushed the window out, used a scraper and got the black looking sealant out, primed any bare metal then put on a thick bead of hot black looking sealant. They glued a trim seal around the window then pushed the window in place, making sure that the outer lip was on the outside yet everything else was tucked in. Now I do not know for sure what that black rtv looking sealant was but they said something about it being heated to like 180 degrees or so. They also transferred the inspection and regristration stickers off the old glass and last but not least trasferred the mirror metal button that the mirror hangs off of.

That's why I had it done, because I wanted no leaks. And if it had to be redone it would be there dime not mine. Plus if you buy all the parts and glues and do it yourself I imagine you're only saving like maybe 50 bucks and I figure 50 bucks is a good price for the guarantee if it leaks they fix with no additional cost for yourself.

no actually glass is sooo incredibly cheap for a glass man it cost nothing, neither does the glue. they make alot of profit off labor.

okay, but I'd still rather have it done to get the warranty in case it leaks
