Want to make my 1973 dj5 into a 4 x 4. She has a rebuikt 232 and a fresh 727a auto trans ready to to be dropped in. this is a ground up resto. I have avaiable a mid 70's cj5 thats been sitting for a few years. So i could use the front axle/drive shaft/ transfer case. But I need to keep the dj a auto for work (unfortunely). Would the 727a (Chrysler trans) hook up to the transfer case? would i need a custom rear or front drive shaft? Advance adaptors maybe? Any advice would be very helpful.

So no special adaptors needed? Or custom drive shafts? If thats the case that would be sweet! Maybe if I made her into a 4x4 I might get the jeep wave from other jeepters! This dj is the 6th jeep i have owned. cj7 yj tj 3-dj 's. Thanks again for the input.

my buddy took a dj and put it onto a cj5 rolling chassi. he had to change some of the mount locations and a couple other things. but it worked out. its cool to see someone wheeling something other than your common jeep. i love the oddballs!
will work for jeep parts!

I thought of that but I already have stripped down the frame to bare metal and acid dipped it. Used por 15 paint and por bare metal prep. I think I will have to change over the cross member. I will also be doing a front disc brake conv. I will leave the 11" drums on the rear dana 44, though. I would also am thinking of adding a low profile roll cage, any suggestions? I will post pics later. Thanks again for all the input, anything helps.

SWEET! Your living the dream Mator Boy! I wish I still lived in Or a gone! I lived in there in the mid 90,s. Out of the 5 stataes I lived in I miss that one the most! Thinking on the swap. I will have problems on the steering linkage. Since dj is a Rhd I will need 2 ball joints on the left side and 1 on the right. The set up is reversed. I have to put on my thinking cap on that one.
