I'm looking to put a lift on the ole dog. I have a 92 stock Wrangler, 4.0L. I would like to keep it around 8,000 +/-. I would like a suspension lift and shackle lift to fit 35's. The lift will be for muddin and dirt trail ridin purposes. No rock crawlin for me. Do you have any suggestions?

If you go for the Pro comp leaf, buy a kidney belt with the lift.

I used a Rubicon Express springover kit and am happy with it . Running 33's on it right now because I got a super deal on them . Will go to 35's next time . Had to add a leaf in the rear to fight axle wrap . Now that I have put a hardtop on it I wish I had added two leaves on the rear . Do yourself a favor and do a front shackle reversal . I got mine from M.O.R.E. and wish I done it the day I bought it .I wouldnt own a YJ that didnt have this mod done .

i second the spring over axle lift and the shackle reversal. it will fit 35's with no problem with factory springs. and your factory springs will still allow alot of flex and a better ride than lift springs. when i baught my jeep it had a 3.5 spring lift and the springs were stiff as hell and i could feel every pebble in the road and almost got whiplash every time i went offroad. and if your goin with 35's get a gear reduction in front and rear axle to offset the bigger tires. your engine and tranny will love you for it. and it will restore your driveability and improve your offroading. just my 2 cents.

will work for jeep parts!

What they said. S.O.A  with the shackle rev. is the way to go for the 35's. Or you can drop 5K for the 8" crawler system from Fabtech.

35s on a YJ. Not with the Dana 30 and 35 axles. No bigger than 33s. Get yourself a OME lift with a 1' shackle lift plus Daystar 1' bodylift (it's probabley time to replace the body bushings anyway). Check this web site for OME info. www.rocky-road.com/yjome

Okay, I am new to this forum and I am going to go out on a limb and make a statement that will probly get me all kinds of flak. I have a 95 YJ, I went with the Rubicon express 4.5" extreme duty with all of the add ons like shackles, SYE, OME Shocks and quick disconnects. I love this set up. Great ride, good flex, and reliable performance so far.

I started with the 33" tires and just couldn't wait till they wore out enough to warrant buying new 35's because there was ample room and I hadn't experienced more than a little bit of a loss of umph (okay maybe more than a little ha, ha). I read all over the place about how the weak axles won't last with the 35's. I just did it anyway, knowing that if I tore up my drive train I would upgrade to larger stuff as needed. That was four years ago, and I have until recently loved everything about my Jeep except the extreme loss of power(especially up hills, but soon to change all that with a 5.7 swap).

Anyway, I guess I must be one of the lucky ones to not have broken anything in that long a time with 35's. Of course, I don't drive my Jeep with wild abandon, either, because it is my daily driver and I can't afford to replace all the drive train and everything all at once. Just as needed.

Sorry about the long reply, but I just have to say that running a YJ with stock drive train and 35's is definitely possible. Risky, yes, but I am amazed at how long mine has lasted. And I guess I better add that as of last week, my little ole' AX-5 finally gave up the ghost on me.

your not luck per say just not to hard on your equiptment, the 35" tires is pushing the limits.
when used as a daily driver and a occasional wheeler they will last a vey long time.
on the later d30, it has the very same axles/u-joints as the rubicon d44 has, aside from the splines, the only weak link there is the small ring gear and carrier.

most of the broken d35's came from abusive, poor maintenance, driving and hard wheeling.

Yes, for sure, I would not go any larger than the 35's. Even the way I drive (with a light foot) off road, the 35's are as big as I would ever go.

As I said in my earlier reply, I recently (last week) lost the AX-5 in my jeep. Instead of replacing it for $1300.00, I went out and found me a '95 5.7 TBI out of a 3/4 Ton GMC. I will be doing the swap over the next couple of month's. Then I will definitely be pushing the limits of the rest of my weak parts. But I think if I can keep my foot out of it I be able to hold off on replacing these parts a little longer.

But to add to the original request regarding suspension lifts for the YJ's I still stand behind the Rubicon Express 4.5" Extreme duty lift system as long as you can afford "ALL" of the extras. I spent about $2500.00 on everything (and that also included a Tom Woods Drive shaft upgrade) Not a "Lot" of money for what I got, but still quite a bit more than some of the "cheaper" lifts out there. In my opinion, the RE 4.5" extreme duty is money well spent. I have not had a bit of trouble with it yet (after about five years).

I run 34 TSL's with 4" with 1" BTF shackles. Stock d30 and 35.  I have been in mud, rocks, and trails with no problems at all. I pulled the axles out of the front and rear a few weeks ago and they looked almost brand new. This is on an 89yj with 145,000 miles. I don't think 35's will be a problem with your stock setup. You can always upgrade at a later date.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I especially like hearing about what you all have in your Jeeps and how they've handled. What's your opinion about Superlift or SkyJacker?

I myself ran Superlift, but I didn't have a S.O.A. Mine was a 3.5". It was a lil harsh, but not too bad. I have heard that the Skyjacker lifts are pretty nice.

hey bro , the lift i have on my 92 the black one in the pic as you read i'm running BFG's AT's 35x12.50x15 .i have alot of clearance still. as i noted i'm still figuring out what all was built into her, as there was alot done. the shocks are rancho 5000, it is a leaf based lift with shackles , under axle . And as stated above bye a kidney belt , stiff ass hell.  I also have at least a 3 inch body lift that i would never think of  anything bigger on a Jeep.  as far as my axles and gearing probably stock at least the gearing. and with my 4.0l H.O with 135.000 on her , I have no trouble at all turning the big rubber.   the only reason i think the gearing might be stock is because 5th gear can be a dog if its hilly.  other wise  my Jeep looks kick ass it gets alot of serious looks there arent alot of jeeps runnin around on 35's that look rite anyway. as i learn more about my Jeep i'll let ya know.  my rocker panels are about where stock front fenders are.
