Some of the winches are made by the same overseas companys. The actual specs are not exactly the same just because they are made by the same overseas company. I know that T-Max is made in Asia by the same company that makes MileMarker. They look very similar but in fact have differances that count. The T-Max has bearings in the case that the armature shaft runs on. The Mile Marker has bushings. T-Max supplys gears to the Asian company that are harden more/differently than the ones used in a Mile Marker. These make a differance. T-Max also cost more. But less than a Warn. Warn is American made, but that does not in of it self make it better. But probably more expensive. Warn makes good stuff! Is that to say that an Asian built winch with the same attention to quality and detail as a Warn would not be as good? All manufactures have to decide at what price point they are going to bring a product to market. The real question is in the priority - Price, feature, durability. Or maybe durability, feature, price. And even after you figure that out maybe it changes over time for a particular manufacture (cost cutting??).
The research that I did last year made the T-Max integrated winch series look pretty attractive. They are not Mile Marker priced but they do save you a couple hundred bucks over a Warn. They rate well as far as performance and at least talk about the things that make them more durabil than their competitors (Hardened gears and bearings instead of bushing).
