I have three warns..8,000#, 9,000# and a 12,000# also and the MM9500si on the jeep pulls the same speed, at the time of the purchase the price was a concern, turns out it was a good choice for me.
just last week I had the w 9,000 and the mm 9500 both pulling a fullsize chevy back on the road together that was buried in frozen snow.
I do prefer the warn but the mile marker holds its own very well. the only thing that bugs me about my mm is It's not easy to pull out the cable. so the wireless remote lets me unspool all the cable I need without getting it all tangled.

is there a back issue that has a winch pull off that takes the hp/gear ratios into account? the battery cable size also makes a difference in the performance of the winch.
I don't recall one, I do remember a battery test using a a cheap winch I'm pretty sure.

I've pulled my fair share of full size rigs with my Ramsey 9500.... It works under three feet of water to!I won it at a '01 Jeep Jamboree so it's been around for a wile and has held up well.
Has anyone had trouble with the paint on the Ramsey winches it seams every time I see one the paint is flaking off!

Nah, not the only one with chipped paint. But the Ramsey 9500 is a great winch.

Yeah I just got A Smittybuilt XRC8. Tried it out last night. locked e-brake up,& it dragged my YJ across my yard pretty well. can't beat the price. $299.00 From 4wheel parts. I think 4wd hardware, & quadratech have them as well. Rigged mine up on A J.C.Whitney receiver mount, w/ Anderson connectors (175amp forklift type) front, & back. only thing is, it's a;most too heavy to lift into hitch receiver. Nice to be able to pull from either direction though.

you can find pretty good deals on the 9500si, they list for about 550. I scored mine on e-bay for 300 bucks inlcuding the shipping...
the si has the highest hp rating and lowest gear ratio. 4.8hp and 212-1 ratio vs 4.1-4.5hp and 210-1 of the other mm's

In addition to all the great input that is going on above me. I would like to add. Look at the continues pull lb. rating. My smitty is a 8000lb. the continues pull rating is 5500lbs. my jeep is 3700lbs so I am already under the continues pull rating plus I always double up on my cable(as long as I aint reaching way out there to fetch some "Rice" truck out of somewere he shouldn't be anyway) Doubling your cable doubles your pull rating and slows your speed in half. I have seen jeep be pulled out with 2000lb atv winches tripple lined. I wouldn't do it unless I had to. So thats my input for what it is worth.

Ok, I got to add something. its all opinion on brand. and type. Most of us have been threw a few brands it sounds like. but like anything, I think it also depends on how it is treated and taken care of. spend the huge bucks and hang it off the front of your rig and never use it or buy the lesser priced one and use the living @#$!# out of it and swear its the best. like me. both will do the job if you don't misstreat it and you maintain it. be safe and use your head. I have taken people to the hospital because they under estimate the power of a winch.I will shut up now. Jeep on
