Woow! Ijust found this forum tonight. I never knew so many people could get so upset over some pics of a blowup doll or talk of guns and such. I thought your Trail Head article about being the #1 Hillrod was awesome. I still break it out and read it on occasion. Maybe because I can relate to beating on my Jeep with a 2lb hammer or parking in the grass to hide the oil leaks or revving the engine and pissing off the neighbors because I had a few cold ones. I especially liked this months beavy of beauties holding JP stickers.
Hey folks, lighten up. Last night I was watching a movie that I didn't feel my 9 year old daughter should be watching. I sent her to her room to watch the tv in there. I didn't instantly return the movie to Blockbuster and tell them to cancel my membership. But if you are that offended by the mag, then don't read it. I happen to like it just the way it is. Please don't change the mag, its the only off-road mag out there that is fun to read.
Later,
Marshall

Jp's humor is really Cappa's humor. its like a guy who can only relate to the horny high school kid. Cappa (and those he surrounds himself with)can only use sarcasm, sexual cantent and put-downs to get his kicks. There is NO wit and thought put into this kind of humor or this magazine. If I wanted to read sophmoric slander I'll pick up a MAD magazine. I read JP for the jeeps and tech (and no, spray-bombing a jeep isn't tech!) not the stupid human tricks, beer guzzling, and boobs.
As for those who say, "If you don't like it don't look at it." The change occured the day Cappa took over as editor. Its been steadily getting worse since. I want to drop my subscription but am hoping time after time that upon the arrival of my next issue, there will be a new "captain at the wheel" As for me, I'd like to see it CHANGED back to what it used to be, and if enough of us get tired with the content and voice our opinions, maybe it will.
BTW where's my Calvin Pissing on Hummer window sticker? You guys should put one of those in every mag next month.
Oh yeah, if I gave anyone a "good" idea YOU are the biggest TOOL in your box!

There are compromises when publishing a mag.
I think that anyone who reads it regularly would realize that the people involved are doing the best they can. The changes we're seeing are bringing the mag more 'mainstream' and more profitable. If you have any problems with this ... look at who buys the most. unfortunately, jp is being hurt by it's own success.
It is the $$$ that are currently deciding the content.

so what you are saying is that because a high school kid likes jeeps as much as boobs its OK to print whatever sells?
I am not saying that those involved are not working hard. The topic question was about the humor. I don't think much thought and effort is going into this area. I would also think a more "mainstream" magazine would be one that widens its readership not narrows it by putting down key componants. Loyality goes along way. Instilling into these High School minded jeep owners the history and potential of these machines is what jp should be doing. Showing them why jeep has such a loyal following is what (in my opinion) will keep jeeps alive and on the street/trail. I am all for the rock crawling articles but historical ones would also be of great interest. Like how WWII soldiers would weep like babies when there jeep was knocked out of commission. Do you think it is possible to incorporate both ideals instead of resorting to the lowest common denominator to sell a magazine?

I am certainly not saying that it's ok to print whatever sells. I am saying that the mag seems to be more about $$$ lately.
If you want to know what sells ... look at the whole 'super bowl' thing.
I'll still buy it, and like it (because there is nothing else out there for jeep owners). I just don't expect that loyalty will buy us anything. We're just too small of a group. Primedia want's big $$$ return for thier investment, and that means boobs and tasteless humour.
my 2 cents.

I rarily go online and post anywhere, especially to magazine editors but here I am. I came on to compliment the editor on the latest JP issue which seemed to feature a little more of the female gender. I'm 34 years old and I've ran across very few of my fellow Jeepers that wouldn't like to see pretty ladies gracing the pages of JP mag. I have ran across even fewer females that subscribe to JP, hence none that are offended by the pics. (but I'm in Alaska) So I suppose from reading some of the posts here the dilemma would be your readers whose children see the magazine? I would think a responsible adult could put the mag away if that's the problem. I would like to see the mag go the route of some of the sport truck mags. Keep the Jeep tech content but add some more eye candy as most of your readers would enjoy it. I mean come on, we're men, we're hunters, it's imbedded in our dna code, ha, ha....

Drop the juvenile, *** style humor.
You will not lose any readers by dropping this from your mag. You may keep a few though.
People build and drive Jeeps for different reasons, I personally drive one to get away from humanity, put the top down, take the doors off and cruise around, on or off-road and collect my senses. I pick up a copy of JP magazine to get a piece of that when I can't go out and drive my Jeep. I really don't want to read about the juvenile b.s. I deal with on a daily basis. (I'm a Police Officer)

Yeah keep the humor. A good laugh makes the day go by a little better. Just try not to get to crude or trash talk too much.

The humor is fine, except for the fact that sometimes it isn't all that funny appropriate or not. As far as the eye candy goes, I'm all for it. The latest issue rocked!

I am entering this discussion a bit late, but...
I enjoy reading JP and I love seeing most of the humor, but as one of the few women in the four-wheeling feild, I believe some of it is degrading to all of the progress I have fought hard to get. Unfortunately, women are usually not taken seriously in anything related to the four-wheeling field and any undercutting shot is very detrimental. I already have to work much harder than my male companions to be heard or even taken seriously...even when my degree in mechanical engineering and countless pursuits in the mechanical field often put me right in, or above, their range of knowledge. Some men are so upset that a woman broke through the "engine, grease, and junkyard" barrier that they won't even speak to me.
Keep the humor, as long as it is not degrading. Shotgun tests are great. Portraying women as minivan driving, nagging, ball-n-chain wives that won't let you spend a dime on your rig is just wrong. I'm getting sick of seeing that in all of the four-wheeling magazines.
DON'T MARRY IF YOU'RE ALREADY MARRIED TO YOUR RIG.

Your humor is ok and sometimes even funny. However I do have a problem with the half naked women, especially your last issue. I have two childeren one 4 and the other 2. And belive it or not they love jeeps as much as I do. The first thing I do after I read your mag is pass it down to my 4 year old. I enjoy there interest in my hobby but don't want to expose them to the T&A that you have included in your issues. Besides If I wanted sarcasum and Butts I would read 'Tailgate' (pathetic exxxcuse of a magazine) Don't step down to that level. Cool Jeeps and informative Tech write ups is what keeps devoted subsribers. Keep up the Good work!!

Humor - what humor? Where? When? What did I miss? You need to be specific: What article, paragraph, line, and words (or was it a cartoon?)
